MONTEGO
1.6L / 2.0L

BUSINESS - AND PLEASURE

Sporting style, dynamic performance - from two exciting cars which don't cost as much as their looks suggest. The more time you spend on the road, the more you'll come to enjoy the Montego 1.6L and the new 2.0L. And you're certain to attract the lion's share of attention - particularly with two-tone paint treatment available with a choice of six contemporary colours teames stylishly with grey lower bodysides and a red insert running along the bumpers and bodyside moulding.

For 1987, these distinctive looks are enhanced by a sliding/tilting glass sunroof, with a louvred screen to prevent the car interior becoming too warm on hot days.

Inside the Montego L, the high levels of equipment will turn more than a few heads too. When you're playing your favourite music on the superb 3-band electronic stereo radio/stereo cassette player, with four peakers and a front/rear balance control, even the most routine business trips will take on an unusual pleasure.

At the wheel, you'll find a car tailor-made for the discerning driver. The standard five-speed gearbox will let you extract every ounce of performance from the powerful 1.6 and 2.0 engines, or cruise restfully along the motorway. The twin door mirrors are conveniently adjustable from inside the car; and controls include a programmed wash/wipe facility, with variable delay intermittent wipe to cater for varying degrees of drizzle and road spray. From the digital clock to the remote boot release and height adjustable upper seat belt mountings, all the equipment you could wish for is at your fingertips.

The comfortable seats are faced in tasteful Plain and Moonstripe tweed, with fully upholstered head restraints in the front, and integral head restraints in the rear. The stylish gear lever console incorporates a handy tray, and rear door operated courtesy lights give an extra touch of convenience for rear seat passengers. You can add to this comprehensive specification by choosing, for example, optional 3-speed automatic transmission, and power-assisted steering.

When it comes to load-carrying ability, you'll appreciate the versatility of the 60/40 split rear seat. At the pull of a tab, the Montego L saloons can hatch out into a boardroom on wheels, with a desk top surface on the larger section and room for coffee cups on the smaller. The huge 18.4 cu. ft. boot is trimmed with moulded side covers, and equipped with a boot lamp.

The Montego L models also attract more than a few admiring glances with their spirited performance. The powerful 2.0L saloon can carry you from 0-60 mph in under 10 seconds, and has a potential top speed of 108 mph (where permissable). Both the 1.6L and 2.0L are remarkably economical too, with the two litre saloon delivering over 50 mpg at a steady 56 mph. Which all helps to make the Montego one of the most attractive business propositions on the road today.
