  • 'Obsolete' filter for 1.3

I was changing the oil in my 1990 1.3 Maestro, and went to Halfords as usual for a filter. The Halfords ref is HOF209. Although it is still in their list and on the display, my branch (Crewe) had no stock. When the assistant checked with their central supplier he was told that this filter is now obsolete, and they had no more stock. I tried a few other motor spares outlets, but it's not looking promising. Obviously there are still odd numbers in stock, but it is really bad news if this filter is no longer supplied. Does anyone know whether another maker's equivalent is still available?
The filter for the 1.6 'O' series (=HOF200) is apparently still freely available, but I had some of those!
I find it hard to believe that a fairly common car less than 20 years old is now regarded as obsolete. Perhaps I should have bought a Rolls Royce?

HOF150 is Halfords' own part number, try GFE150. Would it not be the same for almost any 'A' Series car, in which case the big MG Suppliers (Midget) will have loads in stock? I'm not sure what we have.

WIX have them listed in the online catalogue

WL7213 or WL7142 (I would double check which one with the motorfactors as I don't know why the catalogue lists two)

I'm in work at the moment and Fram do it (part no: ph2869) we have them in stock and so does our supplier so they are most certainly not obsolete...!

Lindsey it cross refferences to WL7213. (WIX no)

The online Wix catalogue says WL7074 is for fords, saabs and skodas. Our local motorfactors gives the fram code different too.

I am not going mad then, I just edited mine to say the fram code was wrong too. Tis right now though.

I have a Halfords Maestro 1.3 filter in the garage.

It's waiting to go back to the shop as there is no filter element inside it.

Thanks folk. I drove to Halfords at Congleton yesterday and bought up their entire stock (4) of these filters, so I'm ok for a couple of years. It still seems a worrying portent. We all have enough sheds full of bits for our cars already without having to start fretting about hoarding simple service items.

I get given the wrong oil filter every time I try to buy one from Hellfrauds, so I've given up now and go to the local motorfactors, where they are not only the correct ones but 2/3 of the price!!

How's it going Robert? Not heard from you for a while!?

I got a filter for the metro from the rover (ex) in Norwich,I went there as being a bit sad I wanted a unipart one . I was only £1.35 so I bought 4 and they were still listed as being available.
