Default Door Handle

Hello All
My daughter was trying to get into the back door (driver-side) of my 1990 H reg, Maestro 1600 Auto, and it came off in her hand, when I looked at it, I could see that it had broken. Can anyone tell me if the plastic handle is replaceable, or whether I need a complete door handle mechanism please. Also are these interchangeable to any door, i.e. front or back, nearside or offside, or must I get one for that particular rear door.
Many thanks!
Mel.

Hi,

Yes you can get a replacment 'outer' handle for the car.

All of the door handles from the Metro/Maestro and Montego , as well as the Rover metro's are the same.

All offside are interchangable for the offside etc.
All Near side , well Im sure you get it.LOL

Some cars had metal handles instead of the cheaper plastic ones.

What happened to yours is not uncommon, and many source the metal versions to replace the plastic ones to prevent a re occurance.

There are quite a few of these on ebay at the moment.
Sometimes they go for pennies, and it is relatively simple to change one.

Im sure some one on here will have a spare one going begging.

Mal.

I distinctly remember counting a load when the club took on the Ledbury stock, so I'm sure if you talk nicely to Maria she will be able to sort you out.

The early metal door handles were no better, they also have a tendancy of shearing off in your hand!

Hi,
That sounds familier - I did exactly the same last year to my rear door. They are quite simple to replace, it only took me 20 mins or so. I do have a spare one, but cant remember whether its the left or right hand side. If you want it - give me a shout

To replace the outer handle you have to remove the door inner door card to access the 2 bolts that hold the handle.

Thanks for the information everybody, I'm sorry it took a while to reply, but I have been away for a few days. Now I know that they are relatively easy to fit, then I will take a look on ebay, and also try and contact Maria to see if there is one available. Once again thank you very much!
