Driveshaft Nut size.

Does anyone happen to know what size the driveshaft nut is on the 2.0 diesel maestsos? I think it is the same for all maestro and montegos but does anyone happen to know the size as I've got to change some this weekend and I'll have to go buy a socket big enough I think.

Also any other tips for changing them would be handy to have.

Hi Dan,

The front Hub Nut size is 32mm.

get a hex socket not a bi-hex, no chance of slipping and burring then.

And dont go to halfords....

Machine Mart had some hex sockets intended for use on impact wrenches - very high quality, and very cheap. I think i paid £2.99 (Halfords was 13.99 for bi-hex made of genuine drop forged cheddar cheese)

Just had a look on their website - good prices! Is Clarke stuff any good as that seems to be the brand that they predominantly sell? If so, I may change my allegiance from Screwfix to Machine Mart for my future tool-purchases.

I believe (although don't quote me on this) that Clarke are re-branded draper products (which incidentally is the socket I bought for 3.20 I think)

Oh yes and Machine Mart had 17.5% off tonight which made the spending £350 on a welder and a compressor a little less painful for the missus. Aren't I lucky she buys me nice pressies.

My missus doesnt buy me 'car stuff' anymore. Not after the last time coming home with a nice set of wheel trims for my alloys...............

Well he isn't getting accustomed to it thats for sure, least I hope not

. It is his birthday at the end of this month, hence welder, and he isn't having the compressor till xmas (thought I would take advantage of saving some money now, rather than have to pay VAT closer to the date).

If I don't get him the equipment to restore the car, then he has an excuse not to make a start on it. Now he has a welder I can start cracking the whip at him

Clarke seems quite good. I've got a clarke lathe, 5-axis milling machine, full height pillar drill, table saw, table sander, bench grinder, band-saw, etc here at work (and thats the electronics dept!) - all have been heavily used and are still in good working order. They seem to be a sort of good quality, but no-frills, kind of brand.

I've come across 2 nut sizes, 32mm and 30mm I think without checking the 2 sockets I had to buy.

Tip--- Have a good extension bar than you can stand on if need be to crack the nut off
