  • MG Maestro, D475 KVE

I will be keeping a log of all the work I'm putting into the repairs of the MG Maestro I saved at the recent Copart auction.

I found the car back in late November 2013 when viewing a tractor, a few enquires were made when it would be listed for sale but due to issues clearing the car with its insurance company this was delayed until Jan/Feb 2014.

Once I viewed the car properly I made the decision that it had to be bought and have the plan to show it this season once fully repaired.

So far I have refitted the rear bumper as it had been knocked out of its mount on the right hand side.

The items it needs to be repaired have mostly been sourced now.
    Sump - Jeff
    Doors - Mal & Jeff
    Cowl - Mal & Jeff
    Column - Mal
    Number plates - Ebay
    Lock set - Ebay
    Tyres - To be bought!
    Ash tray - Mal

I will also be doing a full engine service before its put back on the road.

The column is already stripped out ready for its replacement, I've also repaired the old sunroof handle as that was hanging down.

Rather than repeating the collection pictures, they are up on the original thread which details the fact its stolen recovered.

Currently the car is sitting on ramps on my drive ready for the sump work to be done.

Just finished on the drive for tonight.

Managed to get the steering column swapped over, rebuilt the ignition cowling and put the steering wheel on loosely. Will check alignment one its of the ramps.

Also fitted the new number plates which were a bargain £10.99 for a pair delivered off ebay.

Tomorrow I'm going to try and finish straightening the replacement sump then fitting it.

If all goes well, 'might' try for an mot next weekend.

Looking Good and best of luck with the MOT.

Reminds me of our Mg Maestro D920 PDV same colour and one of the best and fastest cars we had (OK wife's car)! I'll see if I can find a photo.

I currently have too many projects on the go so I'm putting a fair amount of time into the drive, plus no one bothers me at that time so I feel like I achieve more.

Priority is to get the daughters accident damaged metro road worthy as she is taking her test soon. This MG is next, followed by rebuilding my towing dolly as it never sold on ebay. Then I plan to move onto MGT 370.

The main chink in my armour is my lad bought a mildly rotton Discovery for his next car but that will need space and my welder to see another MOT... Bloody kids

Tell me about it, I have my 'driving god' sons 2 cars (MGZS180, MG Monty Turbo project), my eldest (MGF) and my wives car (MGTF) to keep roadworthy that's without my 7 cars, soon to be 6 though

Well after an MOT fail a fortnight ago I have been putting in some serious hours trying sort the electrical gremlins!!

                    I have a seperate thread here, http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=19626
But the good news is now with a spare ECU from a GTi I broke for parts the car is all sorted and ready for an MOT on tuesday.

The ball joint it failed on was an original so took some beating to remove it!!

It should pass but as Im outside of the free retest then the car will have another complete check over, then its time to get it booked in for a VIC check.

Once these are done it goes to the body shop for the door work to be completed.

Fingers crossed it MAY actually be ready for POL.

Cheers Jeff. Almost got to the point of having to find someone to pay to sort it!

As this one is ready for mot I have marked up 370 for its cut'n'shut on the new rear panel. As I'm going to be sorting out a VIC I might as well sort the other Cat C car I own.

The latest news is this car passed it's mot on Tuesday so I immediately booked the vic test it needs.

Got an email back this afternoon saying there was no outstanding vic marker so I can just apply for the v5!

That means the car is now going into the bodyshop this weekend so it's ready for tax at the end of the month ready for POL.

One question I have is I know I will need to fill in a v62 to get a v5, if I do this at the same time as taxing it I pressume I just pay the tax plus v62 fee over the
counter? Can anyone confirm that's correct.

                          Cheers

All change at the moment, a vic is now needed and is currently booked for the end of July.

This weekend I had to change a failed wheel bearing and press it back into use as the daily diesel has literally fallen apart on me.

Be careful with this, I don't know the legal standing but if you are driving a car on the road that requires a vic check you should at least tell your insurance company as they will be the first to wriggle out of a claim! If it wasn't yours before the crash then you cannot have a V5 for it as the Vic releases the V5 in your name?
