  • If you're going to break the engine

    Do it properly
My 'driving god' son did this on new years eve. Over taking a lorry in his MG Montego EFi in 4th gear at 5,000 revs then put it in 3rd
Threw something into the cam cover and went through it, bent the valve completely into the piston

O series when over-reved tend to break the cam buckets or lose the shims from under them with the consequences of a dropped valve at high rpm. Not pretty.

Used to be quite comon in the day, not that it helps you jeff. It used to be said that the turbo was uprated in the cam follow dept. But not sure myself. However i did put my turbo in 3rd at 110mph and rev counter shot off scale but no damage. As you have turbo bits may be you should use these in the rebuild

Engines out, scrapman was passing so he's taken that away for me.
Replacement engine from Mal source and at my house now.
Cleaned, painted, new core plugs fitted and ready to put in the car. Head removed and stripped, 2 bolts snapped so drilled out and re-tapped. Head was full of old crap from a mouse or something but that all cleaned now.
Engine will be put in during February as I just don't have the time before then.

I would'nt rush to much on the new lump Jeff.

I fear the ZS may well be short lived!.
