Norman's kindly offered garage space for this car up in Preston (to avoid a car of historical importance rusting into the ground), so this is the back up option if no one comes forward to take it on for restoration...

I wouldnt mind being involved in this as a project.

I there a list of what needs to be done?

if we can get a generic list maybe we could put a team together and sort out some funds.

Thanks guys, this sounds promising. It would be great if a Tiger Team from this club (or just a group of mukkas) would undertake to restore it (and not to scrap it!).

I'll have an identical (but restored) car here
          http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/sho...454#post159454

on display if anyone wants to meet up/see the car etc.:

            Social housing scrap metal merchants

Im pretty fed up with alleged enthusiasts scrapping these cars as opposed to restoring them...
There wont be any more models coming along, British owned mass vehicle manufacture was allowed to be destroyed by various....
So that makes these cars very rare, and they are now important social history and no longer some individuals banger motoring exercise For those people I give you KIA! Now scrap away boys till your hearts content....

As stated, a bit later in the year my company would be very pleased to help out with the paint work.

Thanks, that would be brilliant. Would you need any rusty metal issues sorting first i.e. welding/plating etc?

This car would make a great showcase for the club as one of the most historically important examples of the model. We could do the livery to credit any companies and individuals involved in its restoration

No we would gladly sort out all the body work.
We have built the fastest ever Maestro turbo race car (featured on the Maestro turbo register) and are now currently building a carbon fibre bodied Maestro turbo race car,so it will be nice to be involved with saving a Maestro of historic importance!

Thank you -this sounds most promising -and very generous. It will take this sort of 'horsepower' to sort the cars out, but having looked at your website, it is clear that you guys would be exceptionally good at a project of this ilk.

BTW, if anyone has any doubts as to whether one (or both) of the remaining cars are worth restoring, check this out:
                  http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=18240

When would you be willing to take a car into your care? Even it it was stored outside but under a tarpaulin this would be a lot better than currently in the elements (one with an inch of water in the footwells)!

The 2 remaining cars were raced by these guys:

                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stig_Blomqvist
                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Sullivan

The Blomqvist car is the one in primer, the Sullivan car is untouched (and more rotten); both are at Rockingham circuit, Corby.

I would be very happy to draw up docs for either of these cars to declare joint ownership with those helping with their restoration e.g. establish an ownership consortium (perhaps the "MG Maestro Historic Motorsport group" or even just the "M&MOC"). Alternatively, perhaps you would prefer just branding the car (both in name and livery as the "Cotswold Classic Car Restorations MG Maestro") -preferably putting the car back into its '83 Austin Rover Rally Sprint livery but incorporating your firm's branding where appropriate?

I've spoken to Jon at Cotswold Classic Car Restorations

                        http://cotswoldclassiccarrestorations.co.uk/

and it's evident that they are extremely skilled and capable; the car(s) couldn't be in better hands if it (or both) end up going through their place.

In fact, I believe it will be so good when it comes out that it could easily end up on display in somewhere like this (which I doubt has a Maestro at present?):

I'm exploring a possibility for 1 or both cars to go to Reading, BERKS, which is only 51miles/53 mins to Cotswold Classic Car Restorations (for when they are having bodywork sorted out)...

Just spoken to Jon at this firm:
                            http://www.cotswoldclassiccarrestorations.co.uk/

and he is hoping to take the car on to sort its bodywork in Sept/Oct 13, FYI

Just need to tow it from Rockingham to Reading now so if anyone has a trailer and is going (or could go) that way please do help out...

Just touched base with Jon again and he is expecting to take on one of the cars in the final week of October (when they have cleared the decks of other project cars).

We could still do with a hand by way of trailering a car from its new location in Grantham, LINCS to Jon's firm (Cirencester, Gloucestershire, GL7 5QN), if anyone would be kind enough to incorporate this on their travels?

From what I know of Jon's restoration work, I would have to highly recommend his firm's services to anyone from the club considering rebuild/reshell/repair work on their car (email him at workshopATcccrestorationsDOTcoDOTuk or salesATcccrestorationsDOTcoDOTuk
