  • Maestro front windscreen seals

I've had my windscreen replaced today, and thankfully the original seal has gon back on fine.

Reason for the post is the guy who did it said that although the proper ones are very hard to find, the seal for the rear heated window off a Citroen BX fits instead. Just thought I'd share this in case anyone needs one!

That's a useful tip providing BX window seals are easier to come by

I think my father's MG features a BX seal since a screen change some 6 or so years ago....

Is the BX seal common to other citroen models? It seems odd that it's easier to come by, there aren't that many BX's left on the roads now...

In the UK maybe not but there will be loads in France, Holland and Belgium. It is not a LHD specific part and as Citroen is still in business and has a dealership and parts distribution network across the UK, it makes sense that it is easier to get that part than one for a Maestro.

For what it's worth, my MG Maestro also has a BX seal. It is a better part (wider, flatter and less brittle) than the original part and it is cheaper too. It allows the seal to meet the running strips on the roof as well which looks better than having a gap.

I've heard of that too, but have never seen it in practice. Glad to know it works well.

Montegos can be fitted with a length of generic seal.

Speaking of Citroen, Xsara/C2/C3 washer jets can be fitted (with a bit of jiggery-pokery) to Maestro bonnets (and 25/45/ZR/ZS/MGF/TF/Elise) to provide a modern fan-spray pattern. Just so you know...
