  • FOR SALE - My 1985 MG Montego Turbo

hi all, after months of thinking about selling my loved turbo, ive decided it now needs a new owner. Ive owned her for six years, and have spent way too much than i want to remember on her!!
im sure you all know the car,b802 nwk,is a former press/dev car,one of the very first turbos built. Its original colour was black, and was i think used in the sales brochures at the time of launch.
Was owned by A/R for six months before being sold to a owner of several a/r dealers in the suffork area,it was then past on to his head mechanic.
The next owner went to town on the car,had it fully rebuilt, and restored ,which cost a small fortune! The engine was brand new or fully rebuilt(not 100% which one) in 1997 i think ,it hasnt done alot of miles since then, the engine has been uprated quite a bit,and once ran on a rolling road 280bhp! since then ive turned the boost down had the carb rebuit etc,it could do with a rolling road and tune up,it still is very very fast!
I do have the full spec of the engine somewhere ill have to find it.
since ive had the car,i have had all the fuel system replaced, including a brand new fuel tank ,uprated fuel pump etc
It had been painted carribean blue,i had it re painted in moonraker blue, and made it look standard again, besides the wheels.
    some pics-

It runs and drives very well, quite firm on the suspension, and rubs out with two in the car,so maybe could do with higher springs.Has 16inch alloys, big brake upgrade, quite loud exhaust lol
looks amazing and turns heads everywhere it goes. ive done about 300 miles in it since its last mot,its sat in my garage, with only on a dry day i'll take it out for a blast ! the mot runs out next week, but i'll put 12months mot,and six months tax on her. It needs a few jobs doing, the headlining is saggy, both front electric windows dont work,i think its both down to the switches,i may get these working when its mot'd.the heater fans dont work, never have done.
Has no rust, there are some marks in the paint, but still looks fab. loads of history with the car,all handbooks etc
i'll also add my massive ammount of spares/posters/brochures etc theres quite a bit ! even a full monty digital dash set up !!!
i'd want £4k for the car and all the spares etc
I know the price may seem high, but with all the spares etc,and a very solid early press turbo must be worth it,good maestro turbos make good money!

I think it's close to a fair Price.

After all, I paid almost as much for my last of line 28k Maestro 2.0i whith a large spares package.

    Good luck with the sale.

    Mal.

            I love it.
Hopefully that will go to someone who respects the car and respects that kind of power in a largish FWD.

Hya. Just home. On iPhone so excuse any mistakes. Must have been more than 2 years ago I think!! Unsure why I googled it, suppose cos I have some pikkies of me racing it at at silverstone years ago. Just thought wonder if it's still about! And bingo your post came up. Can't belive it's a different colour!! I loved the Caribbean blue. The big brakes are same as a corrado g60 from memory and for the race I'd fitted pads with carbon or Kevlar in. Unsure which but they were crap till warm. My girlfriend of then (years ago) had a skyline gts type m and it really hacked her off that the monty beat it.

Details I remember are... Was a 2 tone colour when owned by md or manger or Tim Brintons in Cambs. Then it was Caribbean blue and bog standard when I bought it. Used it for a while and set about it. I found its standard x-spoke alloys the other day! In really good nick too. Was gonna eBay them unless anyone here wants a set? I spent 2 years stripping and rebuilding it. Engine was total rebuild. Head work done. I think I used Sherpa van head bolts instead too as they are stronger and I was worried about boost I would run! Std ones stretch I think. Hand made exhaust. I've even got pictures somewhere of std car and lots of the rebuild as I did it. Happy days

It'll be great to see those pics ! Yeh the caribbean blue paint allmost fell off the bodywork ! Lol i was going to paint it black it's original colour , but I'd allways wanted a moonraker blue early turbo , so that colour it went ! What do you think of it ? Any more parts you still have ?did you paint it ?

It was a two tone originally. It was painted blue before I got it and it looked new. Looks nice now but odd to see it a different colour. I've no bits but have pikkies somewhere. Nice ones of me racing it at silverstone at work too. Might have some of the carb needles in garage. They were from a metro turbo challenge cup car. The guy who did the carb work was called Pete Baldwin who was a rolling road guru. Worked at Jesus lane rover in Cambs. He got it to 263bhp and was crazy. He sat on the front of car, bonnet up on rolling rd. i was taking it thru gears while he was sat ther shouting go on foot down and the car torque steering like a nutter and he just kept there!!! He's still about if you google Pete Baldwin rolling rd he might remember the car! Fun times them. He was scratching his head at 263bhp as couldn't believe it

It won't run 260 now , I've turned down the turbo , and I lost the carb needle , so it has a standard needle now , so if you found those other needles that would be great ! It still is very fast , but it runs out of power at around 4.5-5k rpm which I think is down to the needle ! Who did you buy it off ? Did you know it was a former press / dev car ?

Yes I think I have 2 or 3 needles left. I will look in garage tomorrow. I knew it was a press car. B800 to B810 were these as far as I can tell. There are 3 nice pics with the MGM club at Gaydon way back. If you google "blue mg montgo press car" you might get pics? It's with bonnet up. I've got them at work. I used to run it on 4 star too! For the silverstone race I ran it with a full tank of 4star and dropped in 2 bottles of Millers CV.. Naughty but at 104+ octane it bloody flew! Really hacked off some dude in a 200sx as I kept flashing him to get out the way, eventually did him on the straight and he came at me after the race, all chest puffed up etc. he said I can't believe you did that to me, I've spent 25,000 on my sx and a bloody B reg montgo pissed on it. He was really unhappy. I was a member of the 200+ club. Any car over 200brake can join and they turn up at meets n embarrass other fast car owners. One bloke had a transit van with 500bhp!! Pop me an email to john@espi.net with Ur details an if I find needles I'll post em. You might not wanna sell when you get the full beans again ! I used to have to keep topping the carb up with oil too, it was slower with little oil and that's how I knew when a drop was needed mate.
