  • 2.0i mayfair immaculate and rare

Spotted on another forum. Not only is it very rare 2.0i mayfair -but it is also G reg .Amazing condition -anyone familiar with this car?
I have never seen a pre "Rover" Montego G reg , as they finish on F reg.
This Mayfair was registered a year after the spec was stopped.
It may be last Mayfair registered.

Saw this car at the Austin/Morris day at Brooklands last week, infact there are pictures of it in the events section of this forum.

Very nice car and had a brief chat with the owner, he's had it since 1992 and has done approx 86000 if I remember right. Don't know if he is a member here or of any other club.

The G reg doesn't have a chrome strip on the boot lid.

Steve's is an aftermarket fitment - I think it was removed when EFI replaced the 1.6 and 2.0 carb models. His Austin badge and rear window chrome trim are also add-ons.

That's where they first put us when we arrived at 9am, despite the fact there was loads of space in the main display area. So my mate in his Metro took issue with the marshals and we moved to where all the Minors and 1100s were. A bit of discrimination against the 80s cars going on there I think!

That Mayfair is a cracker, and the interior is plusher than my GSi.

Yeah I've experienced that before at a couple of local shows: even though we had a pass in the window (specifically for the 80s section, it said so on it) the marshall tried to direct us away from the show area towards the 'modern' parking area. Sad to say I think it will need a whole generation to die out before that attitude goes completely. From my not-hugely-comprehensive study of the matter, marshalls 55+ with grizzly white beards like Captain Birdseye seem to be the most prejudiced. I wonder why that should be? And would their opinions change if they shaved?
