It is so sad to see some very interesting examples end their days in the hands of a 'so-called' enthusiast. Especially the L registered Montego 2.0 GTi (it must have been the last one registered given they ended production in the Autumn of 1991), while the K' registered MG Montego (and likely originally a former Rover Cars' Management Car Plan vehicle) is also a late car (again last ones built November 1991). I knew of three other examples on K... CAC registrations.
A very strange tale must exist to explain why such a large number of Montegos have been allowed to build up in this location and by the same keeper. Makes me wonder if he wasn't actually an enthusiast.

There seems to be a pattern with the cars.
The GTi is very rare in this year and as you say 2 years after production

Yes, I know. I have seen both of them over the years. The third one I saw back in 2003 parked up in a side street in Exeter; I have a note of its registration somewhere...
The Marina's not a HL as it would not have that trim on the side. the twin coachline would be up higher than the door handles. Apparently it says HL on the boot, but that prooves nothing. As it could have been switched. the give away would be the rev counter and centre console. I would say its a special with a TC/GT back flash.
Willing to be proved wrong, but since I've owned a few, restore them fairly often, I'm pretty certain :-)

It says HL on the boot so I have to go with that not knowing anything about Marina's but i am going back in January and will hopefully get more details

Richard G, as you also have an HLS and I'm hoping to go back to the graveyard in January, do you need any parts of the silver HLS?
I can put this to him as its a rare model so he might get back to me

Jeff, Does it have a grey interior?
If it does, and providing you can even get close to it (they look pretty inaccessible in the brambles) I require the early fuse box cover set-up. My HLS didn't come with the original dash, so I either need the whole thing, or just the black insert and trim to retrofit a later dash like you've done.
