  • Prima Con Rod Fitting? Doh.

The crank is in, the rings have all been gapped to ensure there's no issues with their fit.

Now for the error of my ways, I didn't make a note of which way round the the con rods go. I know the piston dish is towards the radiator side of the engine, but I removed the pistons during the cleaning and inspecting effort and now I'm lost.

There's no obvious difference that I can see, plus there's nothing in the Haynes regarding which way round the con rod has to be?

Any advice please, I'm planning on putting the pistons in tomorrow if I can get this answered.

    Cheers

Cheers ETV, now it's even more confusing as my perkins prima manual has the pistons numbered the oppersite way round. Number 1 is on the left of the picture in essence turning the con rod 180 degrees!

Where did you get your picture from?

Will try to up load mine to show you.

That is from the Austin rover service insite manual for the MDi diesel engine. (its the stuff the Austin Rover techs were taught with).

Ahh, so the haynes contradicts the works bible.

Simple way to resolve this is I'm going to remove the sump of my non turbo engine and see how those con-rods are fitted.

I need the bottom pulley anyway as mine has a chunk out of it so whilst the thing is on the bench Ill go mad with it.

Thanks anyway ETV, will advise how the others are fitted.
