  • Door Rubbing Strip? ARGHHHHH

After some advice, I'm trying to get the rubbing strips ready to go back onto project salvage MG.

HTF do you get the old double sided tape off??

I have already soaked the strips in hot water to take a couple of very slight bends out, just need to get the tape off so they can be put back on the doors.

You scrape them off Lee. You can use a household scrapper, that's what I use.
Soaking them does no good at all

Might be worth using a hair dryer to warm up the adhesive at the same time as using the scraper

Takes ages Lee but keep at it. I used a short household scrapper as you can get underneath the old rubbing strip tape. Takes about 30mins a strip

I think as Jeff says, its just hard work. You could try a heat gun along with a scraper but be careful not to melt the plastic. Tar and glue remover would work good although you'd need to cover the good sides as It can fade the black colour if too much is used. Good luck!!

Everything beat me, scraper, screwdriver, stanley knife, until I finally gave in and realised the only way was to sacrifice some finger nails and about three hours of my life.

Use De-Solv-It Universal. It is a stain remover and is good for removing sticky tape and it's residue.
It works by disolving the glue and all you need to do is scrap off the residue.
Be careful as the spray stinks. I got mine frm tesco for £2.25 for a small can.

Well I've spent another hour on it tonight and it's looking good.

Been using a hairdryer and steel rule that's been sharpened on the end to make it knife like!

All that's left to remove it some glue residue but as there's not much I may chance it as is.

The original foam tape is a nightmare to remove. The modern stuff comes off much easier.

Solvent and heat gun helps (not at the same time!)

Well the strips are ready for fitting, the question now is what do people recommend for this.

I have bought some proper automotive double sided tape but someone at POL, possibly Stephen G mentioned a make to use but typically I can't remember the name.

                        TIA
