It'll fit but strictly speaking it won't pass the MOT as there is no cat fitted.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but isn't there a rule for93 cars that the cat is present but not tested. If this is the case buy a new system and put the cat or the shell of your old cat in the new system

The rules have been changed this year. Any car with a cat fitted as standard and it has been removed is now a reason for a failure (even if the emissions limits are achieved).

Hence it used to be ok to remove the cat as it would still pass the emissions potentially, but now it isn't.

            re cat

the cat has a flange fittting so a pre 92 exhaust will not fit

Does a 1986 1.3 Maestro City X have a Catalytic Converter fitted, as standard?

Thanks for the answer. here is another question, for anyone in the know, can a 1986 1.3 City X Maestro run on unleaded petrol, or does it need the additive put into it?

If you took that little badge off would the tester know?

Is this information recorded in their database that they now use when you get an MOT?

It needs additive and timing change to run on unleaded if using the original cyliner head.

If you fit an unleaded head (or have yours converted) then you only need adjust the timing.

Sorry, I am a bit confused by what you said "It needs timing change AND additive to run on unleaded"

My car is a 1994 petrol clubman , so I take it I will now need to find a system with a cat for my cars next test , as it was removed long before I bought the car, and where can I find one?
