I was just saying the other day how reliable and trouble-free my car has been since the new engine went into it in April... Well this isn't such a big problem really and I'm guessing it's an easy fix!

The car has been idling a but lumpily recently and has not been as responsive as I'm used to so I took a look under the bonnet this evening. What I found was that the breather pipe that goes to a right-angle connector on the air box lid has come away at the other end and is flapping around at the back of the engine.

A brief examination didn't reveal where it's supposed to plugged in so I'm wondering if someone can tell me where it goes.

Cheers!

SR.

Hi simon, It goes to the throttle body, it is the air bleed entry for the mixture adjustment screw. Should not effect idle quality or performance though.

Cheers

Hey - thanks Gary. Would this explain a petrolly smell that I seem to be getting at the moment? I had put this down to a slight blow at the exhaust manifold / downpipe joint.

TBH I think that if it wasn't this causing it, the rough running might be down to me running it on super unleaded for a few tankfuls and then switching back to the normal stuff. It makes quite a difference to the EFi.

I'll go and reattach it in a minute and see what happens!

It should not cause a petrol smell either as it is just their to provide filtered air to the air bleed. the exhaust blow could be what is causing a smell.

I know what you mean about fuel though, that definitely makes a difference to drivability:)

It makes quite a difference to the EFi.I'll third that. The O-series is very fussy when it comes to both the grade and quality of petrol used. Our MG EFi hates most supermarket petrol for starters: doesn't idle well and is gutless, even though there's been many arguments over the years to say that it comes from the same refineries as the stuff you buy at the main forecourts. Well something's different: that's all I know!
