All the years I've had Montys I have always thought this plug (hangs free from wiring loom in eng bay, pass side, (clear, usually mucky) 'round cylinder plug' - pull apart the one with a rubber O seal, 3 pins inside) was something to do with diagnostic checking if you took to Rover (I never took mine to garage or dealer only for MOTs!).

Anyway, to point. I am redoing the wiring harness, as it's mucky and tape binding is torn in places so renewing with new harness (non sticky) tape. I get to this plug and one end the 3 black wires under the harness go nowhere - they are cut!!! Is this right?
EFi mems car.
Same plug is on my Turbo but don't want to go unsheafing the loom to see if thats the same.

TIA

still light so took couple pics. in 2nd close up pic you can see the 3 wires that go nowhere, ie cut. Don't want to tape up if this is wrong. Thought I knew everything about Montys, obviously not!

I couldn't wait, the tension is too much, so I have been out to my Turbo and sliced the harness tape to see whether the wires are continuous from the plug.
They are exactly the same as the EFi, the 3 black wires go nowhere, just hidden under the harness, 3 wires with cut ends about 3 inches long.

Phew! :D
What is the point of these? Am I missing something?

You are correct about the harness plug being the serial diagnostic connector for interegating the ecu and resetting the CO and base idle.

The purpose of the three black wires on the male end of the connector is nothing more exciting than to hold this part to the loom so it does not get lost. The male half meerly keeps dirt out and stops the serial connections corroding.;)

Cheers Gary:)

Thanks for that Gary. I sort of concluded that once I'd looked at the Turbo one and it was the same.

Shows how much of a panic it caused me, I posted this under Maestro technical instead of Monty, although they are the same basically.:D
Car has one of the remanufactured ECUs and what with an odd (non std) alarm wiring system I had fear that someone had cut the wires:eek:
Alls well that ends well:cool:
