Looks quite tidy. Wonder what the story is behind its blue radiator grill

steve smith

the story behind the grill is that it.s not blue is a brand new unpainted part the owner before last got from rover i am gonign to try and get the right shade of black (any ideas guys???) she has also got a full set of alloys which does include the one in the boot any one know of any great tweaks for her liek a "LOUD" exhaust back box?

A nice full stainless from Powerflow would be a good and worthwhile start. Many on here rave about them and I'm gonna be a customer when I've got the cash available.

Powerflow exhaust is about £200 and comes with the option of having a loud or a quiet exhaust fitted. I don't have one, but I will when I have a spare £200!

If it idles smoothly I'd not worry about it. The haynes will give a spec for it. I've not got an O series so can't tell you off hand.

Hi,
To adjust the idle there is a nut and screw on the throtle housing facing the bulkhead.

I have a low tick over but who cares , its smmmoooottthh

Cheers.

Be warned, cheep tyres will increase the tendancy to tramline. Play with the tyre pressures, mine are at 26 front and 28 rear.

STOP SHOUTING (turn your caps locked off!)

During the life of the maestro/montego 2.0l there were 3 diffrent engine managment systems.

1) Lucas - a black box next to the battery and a black box on the inside of the bulkhead in the passanger footwell. One for ignition control and one for fuel.
2)MEMS - 1 box only, silver and next to the battery.
3)Lucas as in 1) above but with additional inputs to allow for a catalytic convertor.

MEMEs is generally thought to be most efficiant although I have never tried it myself. The 3 systems are completly INcompatable and require major wiring alterations to swap from one to another.

Most of the range use some sort of control box but you must not use one from a diffrent engined car as you can do serious damage to your engine. (a mate of mine burnt all his valves out by using one from a 1600 in his 2000.

If they spot a power steering fluid leak it should fail the MOT. It depends on how bad it is though e.g. weeping pipes are common and don't often fail.

steve smith

it's not that bad really only seems to leak when been standing over night.

Hi Steve. Definately if the pas pump resevoir runs low or empty it cannot do its job, so heavy steering would be the result ;)

Depending on where the leak is, it is a possibillity, with air in the system you would also expect the pump to be slightly noisey also. I guess you need to fix the leak and recheck.

Cheers:)

Hi steve. just read earlier post again and saw that the leak is on return side of pump, so yes I reckon air is a possibillity

Cheers mate;)

today i looked for the pas leak i fitted a new jublle clip and filled the system up and the steering is still heavy i let it run for 5 mins after filling then checked and topped up again but still it's heavy any ideas ??? p.s shes gott alloys should this make any differance

Have you tried turning the wheels to full lock? If you get a lot of noise then I would guess that the belt is lose or worn or there is still a lot of air in the system.

The alloys wont make a diffrence if the PAS is working correctly.

I wont insult you by asking if the tyres are properly inflated.
