Well, it’s rapidly getting near the time for the Club’s annual Great North Run - this year, the Run will take place on Sunday 17th August around Derbyshire.

Places on the itinerary include Chatsworth Estate (and possibly the gardens, if people are interested), the Blue John Cavern, Buxton (including the Crescent and Spa – see the queue of people filling bottles of this special water to take away, and join them if you wish!), Bakewell (including a Bakewell Tart for those that want one), Winnats Pass, the village of Taddington (for a glimpse of how the A6 used to be!) and the ‘broken road’ at Mam Tor (formerly the A625, but closed in 1979 after 80 years of trying to maintain the road under the onslaught of an ongoing landslide – one of only a few in the UK).

We will leave Buxton at 10AM, from the Car Park on the A6 under the Viaduct. There will be a cooked breakfast available on the Sunday morning if people want to come to the campsite in good time, and we are also planning a hot dinner on the Sunday night as well – with fancy dress for the Sunday night attendees if they wish. Email me (see my signature) initially if you would like to be included in either meal or the fancy dress competition.

Camping has been difficult to arrange in Buxton itself, such that the few pitches I managed to book for the Saturday night have been taken (I have been speaking to regular attendees of the Run, most of whom are not forum members so wouldn’t read this here) – but plenty of Camping should be available on the Sunday night (and subsequent nights) at ‘our’ site, email me for details. Camping may be available at other sites in the area.

I have booked a room at a pub en route for lunch, and there will be bar snacks, full meals (Vegetarian and otherwise) and a Sunday Roast available there. I need to know, at least a week in advance, what Roasts people may like – or if they are happy with whatever Joint is available – please email me.

The people I am expecting thus far are:

Bobbi and Mike
Chris Mansfield
Jeffrey Louth-Wilding
John Slight
Jon Sellars
Lynden and Mandy
Rich Gelder
Simon Heap
and myself and Helen.

Everybody is welcome, whether in Maestros and Montegos ‘on the day’ or not. We look forward to seeing you!

Yes I'll be there Rich, looking forward to it already! As Buxton is so close to home I won't be camping, but I'm sure I can manage to get there for breakfast ;)

Fancy dress isn't my 'thing' though! :o

I could well be interested in this. I'll have to check what i'm working.

Hate to be pedantic but Derbyshire isn't in the North. It's in the East Midlands :p

It's one of my pet hates, when a news reporter is in one of the hallowed three counties (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire) and the presenter says, lets go to our Northern correspondant! AGGHHHH!

Oh Dean, if you hate to be pedantic, don't be! Just engage sense of humour!

Great North Run + a route of somewhere between 60 and 100 miles, followed by at least 8 cars...................

Anyway, last year it was Yorkshire - that's north! And the year before was North Wales! And almost everywhere is north for me as I live on the South coast!

And it doesn't matter what it's called, it's fun! Think I've got photo somewhere of Rich Smith's Enormous Erection!

I can see funny sides to things.

I'm just proud of where I live and don't like my region being called something it's not.

It's in the North of Derbyshire though

May I suggest a stop off at Monsall Head? Not too far from Bakewell, There is a pub there oking out over some very nice views.

I'm with ChrisM, don't do fancy dress.

I hope you've planned the route well as it can get VERY busy in certain places at certain times. I know the whole area reasonably well as I used to be a biker so there are a few nice roads out there.

I've got a BBQ planned on the saturday so if anyone feels like popping over they are welcome. If you've not finalised the route yet then I can suggest a few nice "back" roads that are scenic and fun.

I can vouch for Dean's sense of humour. ;) When I were a lad I lived in Derby. Neither north, south, east or west. I agree with Dean on this one, and Derbyshire is miles away from the sea to add insult to injury. That is why I vowed that I would move away to a nice quaint little coastal town near a nice beach which is why I now live not far from...

...Milton Keynes!

I forget you're a fellow East Midlander and Chaddite!

I'm really disappointed cos not going to make it to Derbyshire after all, having a problem with the car so we're going to Cambridge instead to get the engine I bought from SimonR, can't be helped but I hope we'll be there next year!

OK, I've added the starting point to the events map (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=101129943838651927977.0004426f1a804abce108f&ll=53.259537,-1.907378&spn=0.001765,0.003911&t=h&z=18). It's the Sylvan Car Park (under the viaduct) in Buxton and parking is 80p for up to an hour. I hope I've got that right?

I don't yet know what route Rich has in mind, but if I did I could probably add that too.

Here's a reminder of last year: http://www.maestro.org.uk/events/GN190807/

Looking forward to it!

Cheers, Jon, that's the right starting place.

So far, I'm expecting the following people for the Run:

Chris Mansfield and Susie
Jeffrey Lowth-Wilding
John Slight
Jon Sellars
Lynden and Mandy
Rich Gelder
and myself and Helen.

Possibly Dean?
Others who have spoken to Rich Gelder at BMC/BL day…

I could do with having a reasonably good idea who's coming as I've only reserved so many places at the pub for Sunday dinner (we are below that number at this time).

I'm expecting these people to be camping:

John Slight
Lynden and Mandy
Rich Gelder
Myself and Helen

We're also having our usual Sunday Tea of "corned beef hash", and the following have expressed interest in this:

Jeffrey Lowth-Wilding
John Slight
Rich Gelder
and myself and Helen

I could do with knowing how many people want to partake by the close of play on Thursday, so we can get the ingredients in time to cook them.

The route will follow in due course :) .

Possibly Dean?

Not entirely sure what we're doing. Really need to get jobs done at home in the remainder of my holiday.

On the other hand this is really on my doorstep. I'll have to see how the car is, it didn't make it to BL, although it's behaving itself while I'm 'knocking about' in it.

I'm hoping to get there with (at least) my son, and maybe wife too........I'll just check the cambelt by eye (hasn't been changed since the car was built in 1990) or even change it if I get time this week.

Here (http://www.anchorinntideswell.co.uk/menu.php) is the menu for Sunday lunch. Please can people let me know what they would like (post below or email), so the pub can get our orders ready for our arrival?

There is also a Sunday Roast but won't know what it is until later this week.

I need to know for midday on Friday at the latest so I can get the order fired off :) .

Also, is anyone else interested in Sunday Dinner at the campsite? I need to know for close of play tomorrow please :) .

Last call for Sunday Lunch menu choices... the chef is going to go berserk if we turn up en masse without prebooking!

Won't be able to make this. I'll be driving at a preserved bus rally.

I hate to say this but I'm not able to make it on Sunday :( Will still be at Tatton Park Classic Car Rally on the Saturday though with the Allegro Club but something has come up for Sunday :)

It was a good weekend. A nice mix of cars, a fascinating tour of the Blue John Caverns, fun and games on a campsite quagmire...

I didn't take any photos, but there's the usual crappy YouTube video. ;)
