Hello,

I was hoping someone might be able to advise me on a problem with my Maestro Mayfair 1.3. A loud knocking noise has been coming from the front drivers side recently which I thought was the cv joint, which was checked on a recent MOT.

On driving home from work yesterday evening my missus noticed strong vibration from the steering wheel. On close inspection it turns out that the problem was one of the bolts with the retaining nuts had sheared off. I have recently changed that wheel so I am guessing that I didn't seat the wheel correctly on the four bolts and this has been the cause of the knocking/vibration. :o

Anyway I have no idea how to replace the bolt. Will I need to remove the brake discs and where can I get a replacement bolt from?

You'd be better off getting a spare hub, then you can remove your old one and replace the whole thing. Ask around and surely someone will have a spare if you don't.

Thanks for that dude. Has anyone got a spare wheel hub? :D

Hi
If it's the stud that takes the wheel nut that has sheared then I'm pretty sure that you should be able to replace this easily by knocking the old one out with a suitable drift and pushing a replacement in as far as you can, then tightening up the wheel nut to pull it the rest of the way in.

The stud is held in the hub by a spline and I have certainly knocked them out in the past without doing any damage. I think you can do this without removing the brake disk, the only precaution being that you have to position the stud vertically at the top so as to miss the brake backplate when you remove or insert. If you are short of a replacement, I could try to take one out of my spare car and post to you.

I would also check the condition of the remaining studs as they may be damaged and need replacing.

Hi Phil

I'll take up your kind offer of a replacement stud. I am hoping you are successful in removing the stud from your spare car :)

In the meantime I will check the condition of the remaining studs.

Please pm or call/text me with postage costs. I have put an ad in the wanted section of the classifieds.

Many thanks in advance for your trouble in replying and effort in getting a spare for me

Don't the studs only knock in and out once the hub flange is removed from the hub?
