I have been experiencing increasingly vague and notchy gearchanges over the past couple of months, almost as if the whole "gate" had been moving around. I now know why-the main connecting rod from the gear lever to the change speed mechanism on the gearbox has just sheared off at the gearbox end. It must have started with a crack which became bigger and the shaft must have become weaker as a result. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I must admit that when my clutch cable snapped and a temporary repair was done, that meant I had to be a bit brutal with the gear lever to engage the appropriate gears, perhaps this is what started it off? I now need to consult EPC and see about parts availability...

Okay the mystery deepens, the rod has broken off at the selector lever end and the splined socket has also bust off the selector rod lever too, basically where the clamp plate was. This is strange. The clamp plate must have fallen into the road somewhere, along with the bolt, nut and washer which are NLA. X part have the rest in stock.

Looks like I have got myself a dead car then, for now!
