Tony has decided that he is unable to restore CCW 925Y and the time has come where it has to go. :(

Bodywork is fairly good. Only a couple of small rust spots which can easily be fixed. It has eight months MoT, and Taxed until end of January. All electrics work except passenger electric window and electric speedo.
It is a 1.6 R Series with only 52,000 miles on it, interior is fairly tidy, no rips or tears. Has voice trip computer and full digital instruments.
Engine bay needs a damn good clean, but otherwise is fine.
The car was registered only one month into the Maestro's life in March 1983. This could possibly make it the oldest in the 'Club.

Forum Bidding (only a bit of fun) starts at: £150

 Pictures will follow....

This ex-ebay Maestro VDP is now on my mum's drive and will be subject to a professional restoration later this year. It's also got the original paperwork with it that says it was registered (locally-to-me, strangely) on 1st April 1984 - is this the oldest VDP, if not the oldest Maestro, in the club?

Mine was registered June 1983.

Did you mean to say 1st April 1983 instead of 1984?

Was the 1st April 1983 the 1st Day Maestros were registered from?

Also does anyone know what vin number they started from, would be nice to know if mine was one of the earliest registered.

Yes, it's 1/4/83... :o would you trust a car with this man??? Don't answer that! The Maestro was launched early March '83 and mine appears to be the earliest VDP in the Club, being first registered on 1/4/83, which is nice...

Talking nonsense like this, 1st April seems appropriate. I *could* do my Captain Mainwaring and say "I wondered when you'd spot the wrong date of first registration!" but won't...

So yes, it's 1/4/83 and in fair condition (the speedo sensor has failed, plus a few other things) and the bodywork is 'ok' so will get 'the works' before the summer. Will keep you all informed!

Where on God's earth are you going to find another speed transducer? Are you sure its just not unplugged, or the wires have lost contact somewhere? Obviously the mileage will be about as accurate as mine then (says 133000 but depends which engine/box combination you ask!)
Good luck with it, wouldn't have minded swopping the MG for a vdp, but we've been through so much together!!!:banghead:

Maestro's would have started from chassis number SAXXC-----M100001, registered in private hands from Tuesday 1st March 1983, although demonstrators and factory cars would have been registered a bit earlier. Austin Rover wanted every dealership to have demonstrators and some stock ready at launch.

You are right Ricky, it's well worth checking the wiring & connections to the speed transducer before getting a new one - and where will I get one? There are a couple of sources open to owners of old BL/Austin Rover cars, one of which is SMC trading, http://www.stores.ebay.co.uk/smctrading for starters. Or ebay, or various breakers (can't think of any names but there are links on the Home Page of this very Site). I don't expect any major problems, just the need to invest time in hunting around. I'm in no rush...

For info, the VDP's chassis number ends ...M116707 and (to confirm) was first registered 1/4/83 by Southern Bros. in Blackburn, Lancashire, and first lived in Helmshore about 5 miles from my then-home address (ie my mum's, where it is sat at the moment...

And there's a dent in the bonnet from a stone thrown by (one of) 4 kids while RDGelder and myself watched... in full view... yesterday. I impersonated a police officer [ahem...] and got their names (and addresses and dates of birth, while the lad who was stupid enough to come over when requested [ahem again...] blabbed his head off and said "it wasn't me that threw that stone at your car"), so a visit to the police and their school (they were in uniform, on their way home) is imminent...
