I didn't know AR produced a Maestro 1.6 with the metal bumpers... but I have found a rather nice one with 25k on the clock on eBay...

How easy is it to convert from auto to manual, I need a manual but all other respects this car is perfect.

Sorry for dragging an old thread up, but this cars destination is beyond belief.
It is currently in storage after being brought by a guy from Holland and is due to be exported to Australia!!
I kid you not.

Since you have dragged it up, does anyone have an answer to the question asked about converting from auto. to manual? I hang my head in shame and confess that I'm not actually talking about doing it to a Maestro, but I'm hoping that the general principles will apply to a Fiesta as well.
If anyone has any experience of performing this conversion, or can think of any major problems, I'd be very interested to hear.

If you've got a donor car for the bits it'll be easy either way round.

Montego and Meastro spares have lots of manual gearboxes in their depot.

That's amazing. In twenty years of Maestro spotting I have never seen one of these. Just checked it in a 1990 brochure and it's there in the small print in the spec details:
AUTO OPTION on Clubman and LX**
** available with 1.6 engine.
It is not mentioned in any of the main pages on the Clubman. I checked it on RAC though and it looks genuine rather than a conversion. One owner from new as well.
Manufacturer Rover
Model MAESTRO CLUBMAN AUTO
Body type sports
Colour Red
Fuel type Petrol
Date manufactured 31 December 1991
Number of previous owners 0
Last owner change 22 March 1991
I love the body type description!(especially as my 2.0 Turbo just says 5-door hatchback)

It can join the Montego 1.3 that is in New South Wales. The owner is a member of this forum.

We must have found a rare one, it also had power steering. Made a grand profit on that car! Wasn't bad to drive either and was a minter at the time.

Maestro 1.6 Clubman Auto with PAS - must be rarer than a Maestro Turbo. Interesting when you think that in 1983 the Auto was a model in its own right and similar in spec to a 1.6HLS.
It was then offered as an option on Vanden Plas and I think SL, LX and other well specified Maestros - so for it to be offered on the Clubman shows how these things get downgraded over time. I notice that it has small 13" wheels as well like the 1.3 Clubman not 14" like the Diesel.
