Hi all,
Well we're nearly ready to get the engine out of the MG but one thing is causing problems. We can't see how to get the drive shafts off the gearbox. I'd forgotten we weren't using a VW gearbox and I can't see how the Honda box is attached to the driveshafts.
HELP!
PS I've just realised that there's a 2.0L Montego haynes. Maybe I should have bought one of those ;-)
Cheers,
SR.

My dad says it takes a good tug, so to speak...
Take it off the hub and physically extract it from the gearbox.

If you have taken off the hubs, then you may find a sharp/tug of the driveshafts (try grabbing the Outer CV joint ) will "pop" the inner CV joints out of the 'box - they are only held in by a circlip in a groove on the inner CV joint.
If they are tight/reluctant to come out the put a tapered chisel/large flat headed screwdriver between the casing of the 'box and the inner CV joint. As you gently tap this in it should be enough to pop the inner CV out ;)

Thanks chaps!
A quick telephone call to someone who I thought might know told me how to do it and you've both confirmed what he said.
Isn't this forum a wonderful thing?!
Back to the garage I go.....

I find a brick bolster does the trick perfectly.

I use a 2 ft long crowbar so I can access from above, saves me crawling underneath...

I use a garden gnome and a stick of dynamite.
No wait, that's just my fevered imagination ;)
