I know this is a cheeky thing to ask, and obviously you can ignore me if you like, but I am bidding on an R Series cam cover on ebay and would be grateful if you didn't bid against me. Obviously, if you also need the cover then it should go to the highest bidder and I have no right to ask you not to bid. If, however, you would be buying it as a spare, just in case, then could I possibly call on your better nature and ask you to hold off, simply because I really could do with winning this item? It is auction number 2453176197 and I am the cryptically named amanofgretauctoritee.

Many thanks, Matt.

You know, you have appealed to my better nature (well done for finding it!), but I ask only this of you: be careful not to crack it!!!! Especially not the far right one, I can categorically state that it will spew forth any oil that happens to be in there (or in my case, mayonnaise!), but i'm sure you knew that already, didnt you? Speaking of which, I've got some carbs coming (from said ebay!), so hopefully see you all at peterborough!

Ricky.

P.S. Could you not buy the recurring waterpump for the r series too, before i do?? Theres also an oil pump i spotted doing the rounds, same applies to that....!

It's because I am only too well aware of how easily the right end cracks that I need this new one! You'd be amazed at how fast it can spew out oil from a small crack. Already have a new water pump in the shed so I don't need that. I was going to buy the oil pump as a spare but as I don't need it I shan't bid - another one will be along in no time from SMC.

Well the oil pump isn't there anymore. It was bought last night :D I thought it might be useful as a spare. Couldn't find the water pump so that must have gone to someone else.

Didn't realise the cam cover cracked so easily. Why is that?

Mind you Geoffery should hardly ever need engine bits, its not as if he is a high mileage car. At most he will be doing 3000 miles a year.

Out of interest does anyone know who maestromad is on EBAY? As he bids for everything and anything with the name maestro on it. The name is certainly apt.

Skatie.

Usual story - low Rover build quality. From the number of imperfections on mine and others I have seen, it looks like the aluminium casting was done on the cheap.

And also when you tighten the retaining bolts into the cylinder head casting you're not actually pressing metal onto metal. There's a gap between the bottom surface of the cast ally cover and the top of the cylinder head casting. Overtightening has the effect of bending the brittle cast ally towards the cylinder head. Tighten it to the torque in the Haynes and no more. Certainly not until it goes 'Click'! :)

If it leaks, replace the gasket with a new one and bear in mind that the gasket is not symmetrical, neither is it that obvious which way round it goes. Before fitting it, use the bottom of the camshaft cover to see which is the top face.

If the crack isn't too bad you can have it welded (or brazed) up which should work fine so don't throw it away just yet, it is always wise to have a spare!

I think maestromad is someone from the West Midlands, check his history, you may well find he has had several bid retractions. If it is who I think he has a poorly EFi that by all accounts is beyond saving.

Yes its the same username, I have bidded against you before on items I have taken an interest in before you joined the forum.

Yes I remember a spare digital dash motherboard and a scalectric car I think. Did you win the Scaletrix Maestro? They go for far more than I am willing to pay.

Lets hope MaestroMad isn't insistent on buying the Chrome passenger door mirror that i am desperate for. Geoffery (MY Y reg VP Geoffery (http://www.maestro.org.uk/images/fkv98y)) needs one before he goes to shows this summer. You wouldn't believe how hard they are to get hold off nowadays.

Lindz

edited: Oops here I am saying I really needed mirrors for geoffery and silly me hadn't noticed that Mtamin made a post last night saying he would let me have his. The poor Mayfair :( ,some people are so cruel.

Was browsing Maestromads history to see what he had been buying and:

I missed the drivers side chrome ear I needed as well in December from SMC, maestromad was the only bidder. :(

I must have been too wrapped up in sorting out xmas to have missed it, especially as I have been searching since end of November (well since i bought Geoffery)

Oh well, never mind. :)

Thanks for your lack of bids - I have won and paid for the cam cover - a not unreasonable £19.99. Anyone with a 1.3 need a new, Rover branded radiator (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2455478406&category=27376)? They don't crop up very often.

I have now got several scaletrix maestros but didn't get the dash, didn't really need it anyway.

I didn't really need the dash either, it has gone straight in the loft as spares.

Glad to hear you won the scaletrix car. One day when I can afford it, it would be nice to have some scaletrix in the loft to race some maestros and metro 6r4's around.

Would be silly for me to get one at the moment, seeing as I don't own any track to play with them.

You wouldnt possibly sell the dash if someone needed it would you? Some of the LED's are starting to go a bit dim on my dash, and while I think it will be ok for now, I know these sort of things don't crop up often, so would you be prepared to part with it if mine dies? Having half a dash would be quite annoying.....;)

You could try replacing some of the LEDs. I've never had a proper look at a digi-dash, so I may be suggesting something completely ludicrous, but it's just a though.

I spoke to the partner, and apparently he has plans for the motherboard that I wasn't aware of. I will keep my eyes out for you, for another one tho.

Slightly off topic, and at the risk of teaching you all how to suck eggs, have you seen that SMC are selling a Monty digi dash and trip computer thing in seperate ebay auctions?

Hi Lindz, Maria has PM'ed me and told me she has one with a broken motherboard connector, so it would probably be better for me to butcher that one rather than hope another one comes along, I know that a) someone will need it more than me and b) theyre quite rare anyway!

Thanks for the offer though,

Ricky.

Veering sharply abck onto the original topic of ebay, can anyone find a home (and the cash) for this lovely TD

Link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2455950415&category=18262)

Looks to be in perfect condition, albeit a high mileage example.
