View Full Version : Problem fitting rear seatbelts

Went to get my rear belts fitted today but my mechanic found where they should go but couldn't see how to fit them because of a lug on the bracket attached to the unit.
Can anyone post a photo of how they fit? I took a photo of the unit which I'll post as soon as I've got it off the camera.
He wondered whether I'd got front ones but I'm sure they're not as they came as a set with the centre lap belt. They wouldn't be different because they came from a different model, would they?

Hi Bobbi,
The seatbelts are correct for the rear - there is supposed to be a little pointy bit of metal that sticks out (the lug).
The panel on the inside of the car has (or should have!) two holes in it. One with a captive nut, into which the bolt threads and another which is where the lug locates. Your mechanic will probably find that the lug doesn't quite locate in the hole though; in every Maestro I've fitted rear belts in (about 5 now!) that hole is a tiny bit too far away.
All I've ever done is to locate the bolt in the correct hole and then as it's tightened the lug will slightly rip the side out of the second hole and locate. It's a case of 'it fits where it touches' I'm afraid!
I can supply a photo if that would help at all!
I'm not sure I explained that very well. It's been a long day so far ;-)

Thanks Simon, neither he nor I could see a second hole! As he said, you'd think it would be obvious but it wasn't. So a photo would be helpful to show the correct alignment. No rush though, I can't get back to him till next week as he's busy tomorrow.
