I hope to go again this year. I missed the convoy last year so I'll have to make up for it this time.

I'll try and get there this year too!

I shall be going but i haven't decided in which car yet. If it's great weather I shall be in the Jaguar if not my MG Montego EFi as the Turbo isn't taxed. I know the Jag isn't from Longbridge but hey BL used to own Jaguar.

So let get this right, jeff,if it's raining, you will use the monty and risk the chance of it rusting, against the jag??!! tut tut

If i tax the turbo for you,any chance that i could drive it for you??   (Well it as worth the try) as mine is engine-less :( :banghead:

id love to go to this rally as it wold be my first, on of the reasons i bought my maestro, although i am a little conserned as to go or not, the maestro is completley road worthy but body work is "rough around the edges" and awaiting restoration, dont want to be the only one there with a less than perfect car, any ideas what sort of condition the cars are in that go to these rallys, are they show room condition or are "working progresses" able to go?
any info would be great
cheers

I've never turned up to a show in a less than grotty car Alex :D

ALL cars are welcome. They don't have to be pristine. I remember Ben Rawlings old TD there last year, which was plastered in mud, had multicoloured doors and a wheelbearing that had self destructed! Come along and enjoy the fun. The first show I went to I was in a fairly tatty car, and I was made to feel more than welcome.

Insulting my car. Poor George (name of my car).

But yes as E_T_V says don't worry about it, all are welcome.

Because I use it everyday. Brilliant car but my Montegos and Jag are play cars to go to shows etc in and I have to drive them at somepoint:laugh:

Cheers jeff,i was only joking! besides its not trusting to let someone drive your "pride and joy",i know i wouldnt, regardless of insurance.the insurance company's dont care anyway, they would just right it off, should you just tap the damn things

Take the turbo ( i do like that car,you may have guessed! ),leave the jag and zs at home, where they belong!

What forum's this from, Andy? Apart from the provisional date which we got via the Federation of Austin Clubs months ago, information's been a bit scarce!

The thing to remember about this one is it's intended more as a celebration of Longbridge as a factory, a community and what was built there than a show in the usual sense, so as long as they're connected in some way cars don't need to be show standard - just treat them to a quick wash first! The idea is that keeping this event ongoing is one way of keeping the legacy of the place alive even if most of the physical buildings are gone and people have moved on.

As it was great weather I took the MGF last year. If I do take a Monty it will be my Efi as I will be working on the Turbo's engine soon. I have a small oil leak and I think it's coming from the head gasket.

jesus wept!, yes feel free to come in anything alex - talking of the pride of longbridge, i clearly had none - but saying that, every mile of the 35k i did in 11 months in that car was a proud moment for me. I loved that car and im glad its in the hands of someone on here. the firts pride of longbridge event i came to in 2005 was the austin centenary and i arrived in a toyota carina saloon! :o

It's a bit of both - very relaxed/informal and the atmosphere's great. I'll get around to updating the events page soon.

I think I might insure the 800 for the day and bring that instead of the 75 now, someone might even want to buy it. So far ebay has generated zero interest apart from a few really crazy offers :(

A very promising looking turnout from this camp, though:

E_T_V
7th April 2008, 17:35
Its usually a case of wherever you end up, there weren't arranged parking areas the last time I went, just arrive park up and wander round a bit

Austin-Rover
7th April 2008, 21:29
It's not a car show in the conventional sense of the term. I think it is better for that, as you can end up parked next to anything BMC-MGRover. Just turn up, find a space and wander round like Dan says.

Theres not so much to look out for (physically) now as a lot of it has gone, but Powertrain used to be on Groveley Lane ( now flattened  ) Grovelely Lane was also home (just across the railway bridge) to MG/X Power.
The entrance to the paint shop/area is/was on the Lickey Road (this is one way/dual carriageway and ban only be "accessed" by coming "up" the Lickey road, off the Island.
The "Official" entrance is Q Gate, IIRC the postcode is in the B45 area

Not sure how anyone could have enforced it to be a non-smoking event seeing that the location was the middle of a huge field in the open air?

No, it isn't a problem for the driver not to smoke - but the car seems to have picked up the habit rather severely at the moment.
