my mg maestro turbo every now and then will pull in a gear then all of a sudden the power will cut of as if someone has turned the petrol pump off, ive checked for split fuel pipes etc but cant find anything is it a common problem??? but on the other hand it can do afull trip to work and back (50miles) without missing a beat can any one help

Check the electrical connections on the fuel pump as they live in a pretty horrid environment.

If it does it all the time then I'd say carb balance pipe or carb vent valve as they are both common faults. If they are intermittant though, then check the crank sensor wiring to make sure it isn't rubbing on the driveshaft and check the electrical connector is good.
