Hi all,
Just a simple question on headlining. I've searched through the forum to find out how to recover the headlining. After reading a few informative threads, it did leave me with a few questions:
1. I have an EFi, is it Empire Grey I need to order?
2. How much will i need? Is 2 metres enough?
3. Is is possible to recover the sun visors and sunroof-sliding bit (sorry, dont know the name of it)
Thanks

Hmmm Lets see.......
1. I have an EFi, is it Empire Grey I need to order?
A. Yes. Empire Grey is the nearest match.
2. How much will i need? Is 2 metres enough?
A. Yes. 2 Metres should be more than enough for the headliner.
3. Is is possible to recover the sun visors and sunroof-sliding bit (sorry, dont know the name of it)
A. I believe it is possible to recover the Louvered blind, but not sure on the visors, as they are usually a mix of vinyl and a cotton based material.

Well, maybe but I don't think that you'd be able to get a good finish on the louvred slide and neither has anyone tried as far as I know. Much better to clean the one you have (fairy liquid and a scrubbing brush!) and then re-fit it. You have to remove the sunroof tray to get the part out but it's easier to clean if you do.
As for the visors - I have often wondered if it's possible to do anything about these. All I've managed to do so far is source better replacements or (as I know some have done) convert over the the vinyl-covered alternatives.

Ive got my car booked in in april for the headlining, the upholsterer has ordered 3m of material ive gone for an ever so slightly darker cloth which is about the same as the sunroof blind. He is doing it in a thicker more durable cloth as when the old cloth is removed it will be virtually impossible to get the former smooth. RE sunroof blind he says that that is sprayed with a flock powdwe and would be very hard to cover in cloth and the visors look as if the are molded on a machine. You could cover them but they would be cloth or vynal not both as fitted new.
Hope this helps

The flocked sunroof louvred blind will respond to a good clean up-I would use Persil Automatic solution and a nail bush, but go easy as it isn't difficult to work through the flocking layer. The best solution for sun flaps is to convert to the vinyl type as fitted to later model Montego's. They are the same colour as the headlining, are easier to clean and more durable, plus they still have the vanity mirror on the passenger side and the ticket pocket on the driver's. This is what I've done on mine and it looks good. The sunvisors would have originally been heat sealed using a special machine which clamps down, heats and welds the pieces together. I had a go at replicating the technique once, but it doesn't work!

DON'T ever wash the sun visors or use anything damp like foam cleaning aerosols, the 'cloth' part will sag like hell for ever.
Did you know that the part inside the welded plastic keeping the visor stout is a dual length of ......'cardboard'!!!
The louvred sliding panel is indeed flocked and many have wear patches through simply sliding them over the years.
Flocking can be done - would be nice to get a batch done or you could do it yourself with a DIY flocking kit.

Thanks for all the help! I think i'll put up with my existing visors for now. I'm planning on repairing the lining in May - I have some time off work so that will pass the time :-)
