View Full Version : Is It Possible To......

After spending the last week wallowing about in the companies 'E' Class Mercedes (E320 Avantgarde, for those who wish to know) is it possible to fit heated seats to the Maestro?
My car is far from roadworthy, but i'm wondering if it can be done with parts from the Rover 800 bin? My car already has lovely leather and this is one feature i've grown to love and now miss.
Is anybody going to spoil my fun and tell me it can't be done?
Regards,
Dean.

Heated seats are absolute heaven first thing in the morning at this time of year :)
I've a feeling it might have been done before by someone, but those seats definately aren't small... I wonder if the heating elements could somehow be transferred to a Maestro seat?

No reason you can't do it. The 800 seats are very large so fitting them might be a bit of a mission but you could try and make some heated pads to fit under the existing seat covers. Getting them to be safe and self regulating is the tricky bit.

I was thinking of fitting the elements into existing seats. 800 seats wouldn't match the rears.
I suppose the seats would be run through a heated rear window timer, DCP 8988. Very intermate with those, but that's another story.

I think you'd have to trigger another relay from it as the heated seats can take a huge current draw (15 amps each?), but yes something like that would work fine.

Sounds like a lot of messing around for a small benefit, have you considered the thermal qualities of long johns? ;)
Especially these days, it is late january, 7 degrees here. Heated seats? Really? It is a relatively old car and should be kept as such. Fitting modern fripperies as sat nav, heated seats, heated windscreens are really working against the car we are here to revere.
If we secretly long for such things then why do we keep our old cars on the road? I for one an quite happy without such gadgets, it is one less thing to go wrong!
I say buy a mondeo I bet they have what you long for as standard!!!

I really liked the heated seats in the Merc (Which my comapny is selling!) I don't think that subtle mods detract anything from the car. It'll look no different. You should see Simons car. It's a riot of modifications (I'm sure he'll be along soon and list what he's added) all very subtle and using Rover parts.
I like mods if they're done correctly and it looks factory fitted. The most important to me is that they will be easily reversible, so it can be returned to standard.
I could go out and buy a car with it already fitted, but where is the fun in that? I'll just be like everybody else in their bland euroboxes. I'm proud to be different and not follow the crowd.
Plus I like lots of knobs and switches to play with

hmmmmmm heated seats sounds lovely
there's no reason why you cant use the heat pads from another manufactor thats measure up the same size as the maestro seat swab
give it a bash
if not get a electric blanket and a inverter or two lol
i was thinking off ducting warn air under the seat to warm it up but its not instant heat

I've had them on some of the hire cars from work and they are nice, especially on night shifts. Its up to the owner what they want from a car. I mean not everyone would want a TV, sink wardrobe and cooker in their van!
Equally not everyone would want to try and fit a more modern diesel to their car either. It doesn't stop me from doing it though!
I'm currently trying to work out how to heat the inside of my van via electrical or a fuel burning heater but that is a long term aim to make my camper suitable for any season.

Heated seat are some thing that can deferently be fitted. I am not sure about rover 800 elements but i am sure they would fit. If not brown and gammons do a kit for the MG ZS which could be adapted.
You could run the wiring though the heated rear window, or if you used the last type centre consle from a montego (one with the large window switchs) then using the blanks for the rear windows you could fit Landrover freelander heated seat switches. The heating elements would have a thermostat on them so they would not burn out. Have wiring diagram if need

We've got heated seats in our 216GSi, but we actually never use them... But for those who want to fit some, at least here in Germany a company called WAECO offers inlays to fit into existing seats at a reasonable price. Worth a punt if you fancy them...

There's is an MG Rover approved bum warmer kit for Rover 25/45 VUB 106050 £169.99 which I'm sure will fit Maestro seats if the bum rest was dismantled and then refitted. When my Maestro got spanked recently, My courtesy car had heated seats, when I tried them it felt like an attack of incontinence was about to happen, not comfortable at all...(Tena-Lady moment, anyone??)
I recommend chicken vindaloo, much cheaper...

Saw this on e-bay which might be worth a try. I've just got a set to try and fit to my van.

We would be able to do this conversion for you on the standard seats, having experience with these systems from Jaguars they are simple in design and configuration and you could run the timer from the heated rear window switch and then additional relays thefore not altering your vehicle apperance in anyway.
If you would like to talk further please email.
