To echo a rather interesting thread on the Vauxhall BBS I also frequent, let's see who's got the highest mileage on their cars! Also, what's the highest mileage you remember recorded on any of your previous cars, or cars owned by members of your family?

My contribution:

Our 1989 MG Maestro Turbo: 29k
Our 1998 Astra 1.4LS: 54k

Highest mileage of any car (ever) in my family:

My bro's 1994 Rover 418 diesel: 130k, and still running sweet as ever!

That's laid down the gauntlet as far as Maestros and Montes are concerned...can anyone better that?

Of the cars I have at the moment, my new 309 is showing 85000, and the maestro is showing 133500 ish, but she's just had another engine put in, which had done approx. 100k, so thats not too bad.
The highest mileage award has to go to the car that I labelled "the shed", my second 309 (im currently on number 4!) that I had given to me for spares. When I picked it up the mileometer was reading 285k, not bad for an old 1.3 ohv i thought! By the time I had got it home and driven it about for 2 days it was reading 313k, yep you guessed it, it had somehow dropped a cog or something in the speedo and was reading about 10 times the actual mileage! Speedo seemed correct though, which was odd, but it was interesting to cover 150 miles in 15 mins, a feat I have not managed since!
Also mum had a merc 240D estate ('79 vintage!) which had done an interstellar mileage (she thinks about 400k, but the speedo was usually disconnected!), that car went without basic servicing for 3 years, even the MOT was usually forgotten! When she finally sold it (yes sold!), it only went for another 2 weeks until it finally packed up!
How am I expected to buy a decent car with this sort of "family pedigree"?

G reg MG maestro 2.0i - 55k although t16 engine but in at 51k so cheating really!

C reg MG Maestro EFi - 184k was pretty much ok when i took it off the road although after doing head gasket decided it ideally needed head skimming but ran fine and never got round to it! It had full rover service history, they must do something right!

Have had two 1.3L both of which topped 110k and were still running well when I scrapped them. They still went nice and fast too due to the reduced body-weight caused by the gaping rust-holes in unimportant areas like the sills.

K822CAC (2.0DLX Monty) did 204,631. Scrapped, but running OK.

Not really cars, but the buses i drive at work range from 590K-480K, on L-reg's some still on orignal engine, gearbox and back axle.

They still do go well, 55 comes up in about 15-18 secs.

Cheers

My TD is nine years old exactly and has just a few days ago turned to 100,000 miles. I've been using it on the odd occasion for travelling to Manchester due to getting :censored: off by crowded/late trains.

PS: We've got a Vauxhall 2.5TDi pickup (P reg) which has covered 210,000 miles since new. It wanders on steering and the suspension creaks but it's reasonable overall.

Hi Ya,

I picked up the 1.6 VdP in mid-January after putting the 1.3LX in a ditch.

It cost £140 and had about 56500 on the clock (with fsh).

11 months later it has about 84100 on the clock.

27600 in 11 months:rolleyes:

Any good?

Tim

P.S. and yes, my bum has become FATTER

My father's MG Maestro EFi: 225k on first engine, which was changed to a younger one still running very good.
My own ones are 'young':
Maestro LE: 94k
Maestro LS: 60k (just run in :))
MG 1600: 121k

I think they should last longer when the rust won't eat them...
