Ok it's time for some festive fun! 2003 has only just over two weeks left to run, and from now until 31st December you are invited to nominate your favourites in the categories below.
Try and make a nomination for every category, or at least as many as possible, but preferably make only one nomination in each category (if you suggest two nominations for a category they will only be allocated half a vote each when the results are collated). If you change your mind at any stage, just edit your post.
Responses will be collated and results posted early in the New Year. It’s only a bit of fun so there are no prizes for the winners I’m afraid.
Get voting!

Right i will make my post now, but add later as I am still thinking about it :)
1. Most Helpful Thread of the Year
To be decided.....
2. Most Amusing Thread of the Year
To be decided.....
3. Contributor of the Year
Although many people have provided good technical advice over the last year their contributions would not have been possible with out the hardwork and enthusiasm provided by D428CHO (Jonathan Sellars)into making this a successful and professional site for Maestro enthusiasts. The new facelifted forum has attracted many new members and allowed a community to form.
4. Car of the Year
My personal car of the year is my ex-police car George. Since its engine replacement in October 2002, the car has been very reliable, and even flew throught its MOT with no major problems. For a car that we had considered scrapping well over a year ago, he still persists and lives on.
I will also have to put forward my new purchase for car of the year. It is not often you find such a good example of an early maestro.
However 'Cars of the Year' that I think deserve a mention are:
Tony's Montego Cabriolet, RDGelder's R reg Ledbury and FI53JUEs project.
Tony and RDGelder have provided the club with two special examples of a Montego and Maestro.
Tony's Montego Cabriolet was a fantastic purchase, and has certainly been one of the cars that has been the focus of attention at shows.
After persuading RDGelder that Ledders (nickname for his car) was a bargain, and even though he couldn't quite afford it at the time it was an opportunity not to be missed. A long journey to Newcastle on the train and a long drive home provided Rich with a fantastic car. Rich then found out the car had been the star of TOPGEAR and Vicky Butler-Henderson had driven the car. What an added bonus! Since Rich has owned the car in a short period, the engine bay is now spotless (i would be confident of eating my dinner of it), and some other subtle modifications have been made to make the car look good.
Another car of the year that I feel is worth a mention is F153JUE, purely for the amount of time and effort that has been spent on its restoration and also for the fantastic step by step guide to its restoration that it has provided
5. Best Avatar of the Year
To be decided.....
6. Event or Day Out of the Year
The BMC/BL rally probably provided the best attendance and the best weather of the year. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all.
Though my vote for 'event of the year' would have to be the Manchester/Derbyshire Run. A small idea provided by F170GGT for a north meet, turned in to a fantastic day which was well attended and enjoyed by all. Hopefully this will now become an annual event.
7. Silliest Moment of the Year
To be decided.....

Okay, here are the results of the St. Ives jury (or one of them anyway)
MMOC FORUMS AWARDS 2003
1. Most Helpful Thread of the Year
Has to be 'Tuning the R-Series' in Maestro Technical Help because not only did I get all the advice I needed, I also got a new manifold for my Maestie which fixed it a treat.
2. Most Amusing Thread of the Year
3. Contributor of the Year
Although I've had some really useful advice from Simon, Gary, Wayne Dan, Lindz, Gareth, Rich, Maria (to name just a few) it has to be Jon who obviously put a lot of work into these new forums in 2003. Thanks Jon!
4. Car of the Year
If I could vote for my car then it'd be F153 as this has been its year, with new engine, brakes, driveshafts, clutch, suspension, bushes, fuel tank, alloys etc.
I'd also mention Tony's Monty, the Ex-Plod 1.3 belonging to E_T_V and Skatie, D428 for generally trying to persuade Jon to give up and buy a Honda, A82WHR for trying to convince MaestroMatt and me that it required a new headgasket and A335 for a)being my new Maestro and b) all it's inane chatter to me about random stuff that's not true.
However I think that the car of the year has to be Gareth's Tickford simply because of the ease with which it passed me on the way to Nene Park this year and happily burbled along as if it was doing 30mph. Oh, and the fact that it was possibly the shiniest car at the show!
5. Best Avatar of the Year
I liked Simon Heap's Homer Simpson Avater that lasted for a few weeks. The resemblance was uncanny! (sorry Simon!)
6. Event or Day Out of the Year
Has to be the BL/BMC rally. It was great to meet you all there and really hope that more people will be able to make it next year.
7. Silliest Moment of the Year
(Me going down to Torquay to get a Maestro that was advertised as being in good condition and it turning out to be a shile of pite that wouldn't even start and also was home to a family of mice. What a waste of time!)
Ah yes - that was the one - the great Music debate! Thanks Roverbabe...

Resisting the urge to continue Steven's narcissistic theme and vote for my own car, my vote has to go to F153 JUE. New engine, new everything - deserves a vote for the hours of work that have gone into it this year.
5. Best Avatar of the Year

This one requires quite a bit of thought, doesn’t it..
1. Most Helpful Thread of the Year
Already a very difficult matter to decide because the quality of advice exchanged here is generally excellent. For me it would have to be “Adding power steering” because that’s the next upgrade I’m considering whilst undertaking the engine transplant.
http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?threadid=699
2. Most Amusing Thread of the Year
Anagrams – amazing how apt some of them were!
http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?threadid=682
3. Contributor of the Year
Careful, stop voting for me, I might win! I don’t even get as much time to contribute as much as I used to now. This is possibly the closest run category of them all because we’ve got some great contributors here especially in the technical knowledge department (you know who you are), but my vote goes to F153JUE.. just :)
4. Car of the Year
I haven’t chanced upon as many this year that have really made me want to go over and take a closer look, certainly not outside the show circuit (they must be getting rarer). The beige Austin Maestro 1.6L LVL 681Y from the BL Rally was a fine example of the kind though, you don’t see many like that.
5. Best Avatar of the Year
I don’t like to follow a trend, but it’s got to be MaestroMatt’s current avatar.
6. Event or Day Out of the Year
That’ll be the BMC/BL Rally then, a very nice BBQ on the Saturday evening, comfortable night’s sleep, a massive attendance and fine weather on the Sunday followed by a great drive home – the only proper run I had in ‘CHO all year. This was closely followed by the M Car Rally although it would’ve been better had I been able to bring the Maestro up. MG Saloon Day, for me at least, was by far the biggest disaster of 2003!
7. Silliest Moment of the Year
The bombing of a certain Oxford pub by an endless succession of unguided screaming balloons would have to rate pretty highly in this category, but that was recent and my memory won’t go back far at the moment. These cars and their owners never seem to get far without having something silly happen (I should just add I wasn’t responsible on this occasion... but then neither was anyone else!)
