I'm not actually in need of help this time, I just thought I would share my botching success in case any of you are as cheap as I am. The 1.3L I am trying to shift for £100 had a nasty hole in the exhaust, just forward of the rear silencer. To make her sound a bit better to the next potential owner (don't worry - I will tell them about this before they buy it/take it off my hands) I cut the top and bottom off a beer can and slit the resulting cylinder vertically. I wrapped this round the pipe with the hole and clamped it tight with a jubilee clip at either end and voila! - no noise at all - problem completely solved. A good botch job for no cost and one that will probably last some time.

Had that done to a Renault 11 I bought...it worked, until I was halfway home and the mid section of the exhaust dropped clean off the car..
I called out the AA, and the verdict was "you were done mate.."..no indicators or lights working, electrical system basically toast, exhaust rotten totally, and petrol tank so rotten it was missing the top..
Memories...

Naturally, I will tell the new owner what I have done! Except if the new owner happens to be the scrappy of course...
Does anybody want a perfectly serviceable 1.3L (not broken down in the 2 years I have owned it) for a mere £100? Deal of a lifetime, that.
