Same with me, found this site via google. Until I found this site, I hounestly thought I was only the only person in the world who liked maestros!!!!!!

I was one of its first members. My original membership no was, IIRC, 6.
Jonathan Sellars ran a Maestro website in the late 1990s and after about a year put a poll on his site to ask if people 'out there' thought there was enough demand for a Maestro Owners Club. I among many others voted 'yes'.
I joined the Club at MG Saloon Day in 1999 when I met Jon for the first time. He was still at school, too young to drive the car he had just bought (D428 CHO), and had travelled from Hazlemere to Bridgenorth by train with a small tent, a table full of spares, and bags of determination. I knew even then that the Club would be a winner, because Jon's enthusiasm wouldn't allow it to fail.

When I took voluntary redundancy from my last job back in July, I had time to work on my project in the garage(!) I just thought that I could find something on the Internet that would inspire me, and I did!:D

I also found the site long before the days of the club and was amazed to find someone as enthusiastic as me.
And I *am*, and always have been, member no 6 :D

I think it was altavista that pointed me in this direction in about 1999 when I got my first Maestro. I made my first post on 12th February 2000 just before I got F153.
Didn't actually get round to joining the club until sometime after that, when I was made to feal very welcome indeed at the Peterborough BL/BMC rally in August 2000.

Found it on Google, in January 2001. Was just browsing the site often until I decided I wanted a project Maestro. - That was an MG Maestro 2.0 EFi, but after recieving no reply from the seller, I tried again. Hence F170 GGT. Bought GGT in March this year, and have been member of the club since about July.

I first visited the website around 2000 when I was doing research for my A level general studies asignment on the british car industry (one of the coursework assignments that I actually enjoyed writing).
It wasnt until I got my car in january 2002 that I actually became a forum member. I actually joined the club in february 2003 as I remember.
So in answer to your question I found out about the club on the internet via a search engine I supose.
we could do with getting some coverage in practical classics. that would be really good.

Good Idea that. I remember seeing a maestro.org.uk sticker on Simon's car - how about more of those?
I also remember there being a mention about flyers - how about that as well? I see quite a lot of decent looking "M's" on my regular travels (including a couple of red 1.3 Specials), so how about it?;)

Andy,
Thanks for your very useful response. I'm pretty sure it's been seen around since your dad crashed it; we've just have to hope it turns up sometime. The other three press-cars are all accounted for.

I found out via Practical Classics in 1999 after a couple of others had attempted to start a club for these cars. I'd always been a fan - my first Maestro was bought when it was 3 years old on 8/8/88! Anyway I went along to the 2nd AGM in 1999, got onto the committee straight away then in March 2000 became Chairman! Then I bought a computer, joined the forum and 1200 posts later here I am.
Great cars, great people, great club. Honestly, what more would one want?

I inherited a Maestro whilst at Warwick Uni (it was a 1.3L that had been previously owned by F153 JUE before he upgraded to a VP), did a quick Google search to see if anyone else had the same handicap and found myself here.
