I've got to remove an Alpine CDA 7850R CD Head Unit from a mate's car as he's just sold it and the stereo is worth more than the car!

Thing is that I can't work out how to do it :(

The square flange around its perimiter is loose but won't come off and I don't want to force it. Also I can't find out how to unclip the head unit from the slot - my Sony unit has a slot into which you insert a small swiss army knife blade but I can't see anything like that on the Alpine.

Any ideas?

Thanks SR.

The two methods that I know of are:

1 type has a small hole at each corner of the face, you get a pair of u shape prods that fit into the holes one tool each side and then that releases the clips holding it in.

other type you have two covers at each side of the face, you remove the covers and that reveals two screws which you slacken and then the unit pulls free

Stick your hand behind the dashboard and push the head unit out, the clips holding the chassis in usually unbend and the head unti comes out with it.
