I've always been warned away from the Austin/Rover marque, but now I've gone and done it.... .... I bought a 1988 built /1989 registered Maestro. 1.3l 95,000 on the clock and only 2 previous owners. It seems ok but that may be because I've owned Lada's and Fiats in the past. Anything I should look out for??? She seems a little sluggish, is that normal? BTW I'm Alan 26 yr old from Essex.

Hi Alan
Graham , Cambridgeshire {17}
Welcome to the forums !
I find the 1.3 Isnt too sluggish once theyre warm . How rich was the car running on the last emmisions print out.. ? I lowered mine to about 0.75% Co for the MOT but run it a bout 3% {Just in the limits} for "optimum performance"
Aslong as you are aware of the 1300 engine service schedule your well away. Oil and filter every 6 months then annually Plugs , Air , Oil & Filter , Oil Filler Cap and Fuel filter if fitted , your well away ;)
Might be worth wipping of the Dizzi cap and having a clean up ? or some carb cleaner into the carb when running ;)
The 1300 isnt particuly sluggish although still not that fast . i find , flat out i can get to the top of third year on my 4 speed box , at about 75 MPH , pretty quickly! {Engines on 17.5K Still being Bedded In;)} .. i find the works
2L transit petrol engine , given the size and weight difference , put out about the same kind of "times"
Hope this helps , if it even makes sence!

yeah, That sounds about the way it goes, must do the usual checks. My wifes Volvo is a 1.8i and can leave most cars for dead so maybe I'm judging unfairly!! Oh and mines a 5-speed
