Running on from my last electrical problem, I now have no internal dash light or clock light. I stripped the dash out and removing the green covers the bulbs appear to be ok.(Where do you get spares for them?) I checked the fuses and relays and all seem to be in order. How do I use a circuit tester on the dash and do I check the circuit or the printed bit on the back of the dashboard? and would it be easier to replace the dash?

Cheers

Hi I don't know what model you have but have you checked to see if you have a dash light dimmer on your car. A small thumb wheel on the lower right of the dash iirc.

I've got an H reg 1.3 Special. It hasn't got a dimmer at all. The Dash panel bit has a plastic printed circuit stuck on the back and the unit can be split as it has clips and small bolts. The bulbs look not to have blown but I do not know how to test them and can I test them outside the dash unit????

Yes you can test them outside the unit. Just remove the bulb with holder and apply 12volts across the two metal tags that are on the bulb holder. If you have a 6v battery kicking around (you know the oens with springs on the top)then that will probably work just as well too.

If you haven't got the dash dimmer than check the wiring in the area of it. There is a blanking plug I think for where it should fit. If it is unplugged then you might get no dash lighting at all.

Also check the switch as these have been known to go faulty.
