Anyone got or know where there is a good 1300 A series for my 86 City X. Got a hole in one piston and the broken piston ring has put a couple of short gouges in the bore so I think it's had it. Also has anyone any idea what it costs to have engines swapped, don't fancy doing it myself.
Thanks in advance.

Well there are a couple of options open to you. You could replace the piston and rings if you can't find a good second hand unit. If the scores are bad on the bore you could always fit an oversize set and have a rebore done.
Saying that there should be plenty of spare units around available from scrap yards and the like. I managed to pick up a 12,500 mile one for 50 quid (my best bargain yet I think. Fitting it is a doddle if you can beg/borow/steal/hire a hydraulic engine hoist. I did mine in a day. The hardest part being undoing the exhaust from the manifold.
Also if you find a unit and want to convert it to unleaded I have a good condition unleaded head that I did up on my old engine before I realised the block was cracked.
Best of luck

I keep banging on about it but speak to Mick in Ledbury - when I went there were at least three new unleaded 1.3 engines there and I'm sure he'd be happy to sell you one for not very much. You could also stock up on essentialls such as tailgate gas struts and hoses.
If you are looking for new 1.3 Maestro parts then Ledbury should be your first port of call.
I picked up about half a Maestro (granted, not a engine) for about £300.

Can you give us a phone number for Ledbury? I need a fuel filler pipe...

Warringtons of Warwick have stacks of new A-Series... nb these units are slightly different as they were intended for vans (but then so were the ledbury units). I paid 100 for complete with all ancillaries about 18months ago.

How different are they?

The crank end plate is different, it does not have the flange at the bottom that attaches to the lower tie-rod. Instead the torsional force on the engine is taken up by a mount at the front which connects the gearbox (near starter motor) to the front cross section. And a similar mount connecting the two studs on the rear of the box to the floor pan of the car. These mounts can be obtained from a manual 1.6 monty. The gearbox end mount is also different, since the engine sits ever so slightly further forward. It is VERY similar to mounts used on the 1600 monty, but not the same. Finally the crank end mount is a very very different design. I'll take some photo's later.
This, 'four point', mount system is described in the work shop manual. It was used on all 1300 that had lower gearing ratios - hense higher torsional forces to deal with: 1300 Vans, some police spec cars, all 1300's for the swiss market, and later the Bulgarian KD kits.... and H762 pictured in my avatar!
Not a big job, but unfortunatly 1300vans are a bit rare!

I have one of the warwick engines waiting for fitment, £100 with everything on it except the alternator, even came with plugs and leads! The mounts are different as Dave explains, but I am hoping to source new ones from Ledbury.......!?
