I have noticed that the temp sender on the head of my 2.0 TD perky always is on. As per the repair book, it should be off when cold and on when it reaches its desired temp. Where would I find a new sender or the part #? I am in the USA so no one has any Idea about this motor.

Thanks Randy:banghead:

I think it is a landy conversion from memory.

The switch doesn't activate until it gets VERY cold. To test it bung it in the freezer for an hour then remove it and measure its resistance as it warms up. I think it is supposed to activate at 0 degrees C. You'll notice it click as it switches over. I can't remember how the switch works only that it triggers at a suprisingly low temperature.

If it is live only when really cold then you could simply unplug the sender until you have to start it in sub zero conditions and then plug it in (I know it isn't a desirable solution but it would work in the short term to make life easier.)

For a replacement you could try your local perkins dealer in the US, as they should be able to source it. Otherwise I think Diperk in the UK do mail order. rimmer bros in the UK also do international mail order for rover parts so it may be worth finding the part number and giving them an e-mail to see if they can source it.

Ok. Can someone get me the part # though? And yes, its in a fully restored 1971 IIa Land Rover.

It is about 80 deg F here and the Power is always on. IS this correct? I also removed the wire and did not here the pump make any noise or changes. Should I?

Is this part easy to purchase in the UK? IT is not easy here in the USA. Could someone get me a price and or # to contact in the UK to purchase this. I could send soemone paypal to get it for me and ship it as well.

http://www.diperk.co.uk/
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/

Both do mail order to other countries.

Having said that are you sure the switch is faulty?
HYave you tried removing it and putting it in the freezer as suggested. It is always on (or off I can't remember which), until the temperature is below freezing in the engine at which point it changes to the other state off (or on), and this changes the fuel injection timing so it'll start easier in colder weather.
