Hi,New member here.Does anyone know of any tips for removing speedo cable from instrument panel (Maestro 1.3 Clubman) as I want to fit a Tachometer.Last time I removed a speedo cable was many years ago on a Mini that had a knurled nut on the end and was simple to remove.I also want to get some 14 inch steel wheel rims, could anyone advise what rims would fit.I have seen similar ones for Vauxhall Ford Peugeot etc and wondered if these may fit.or is there other Rover models that will fit. Many thanks Malcolm.

Hi there,

Yeah - speedo cables can be a bit of a pain but they're actually very simple.

Remove the black plastic surround from the instrument cluster, then undo the screws that attach the cluster to the dash. Pull the right hand side out so you can get access to the back of the speedo.

Now (I've done this loads of times but can't remember the exact procedure!) you'll see there's a plastic connector on the cable and there are also a couple of pads which you can squeeze together. I think it's a case of squeezing the pads and turning the cable - whatever it's really quite obvious when you see the connector.

Good luck...!

If you can see a disconnected speedo cable it is obvious how to remove it, far harder to explain.

As for wheels, only maestro, montego and metro wheels fit (and not maestro van) or some older cars like Tuimph Hearlds.........

Many thanks for the helpful information on speedo connection I am sure I will be able to work it out.As for wheel rims would anyone know where I can get a full set of 14 inch steel rims in or around the Manchester area?

I used to find speedo cables terribly difficult until I actually looked at one out of situ - you'll find the plastic clip actually only needs pushing from one direction (the flat side IIRC). If you squeeze from both sides it pushes another lip up and just gets in the way!

Hope this is clear enough, let me know if you want a diagram!
