Hi

I have a G reg mastro with 90k miles on clock .

Runs fine once up to speed ( eg on motorway etc) however when accerating cars seems very slugish & seams to miss . Almost like there is not enough fuel coming through .

I thought about changing air filter / fuel filter / plugs ?

don't really want to spend too much on it.

btw what king of mileage can the 1.3 rack up before going pop ?

cheers Steve

Check the following:

One or more vacuum pipes perished - start the engine, remove the vac hose from the side of the distributor, place you finger over the end... if you cant feel some suction then you need to trace the leak.

Check/Replace iginition leads, rotor arm, distributor cap. Clean the sparkplugs, and replace the air filter too.

It could also be the timing is out - but for idling problem i'd guess it was the vacuum pipes.

Youd have to make extra effort to spend money on this engine... its all VERY cheap to service. Theres no reason a well looked after 1300 wouldnt manage 200k

Hope this helps
Dave

Where are you from? Perhaps we have a local member who might be able to help

Otherwise what Dave said above :)

If it's missing on acceleration, then it could be just low oil in the carb dashpot. Unscrew the black top on the carb and remove. Should be oil up to the step inside the tube. Little or no oil in here will cause a weak mixture on acceleration. Use clean engine oil to top up.

When mine does that its normally just the dizzy or lead contacts being damp a quick spray with GT85 or WD40 sorts it out

I would agree with Dave - sounds like it isn't advancing properly. Could well be vacuum pipes or it could be the distributor itself (the ball bearings inside can seize apparently - happened to a 1.3 of mine). If you are replacing the distributor cap and rotor arm then, while you have got them off, there may be a hole through which to put a drop or two of oil into the inner workings of the distributor. This is a recommended service procedure on my car (R series), can't remember for the A series. You should be able to do a pretty comprehensive service for about £40 or less, and why not get some Unipart Silver oil from Rover while it is only £8 for 5 litres!?

Hi Guy's

finally got round to servicing the car .
took air filter out & noticed that there were bits of card quite large in size floating around inside , cleaned out put new air filter & took out for a spin .

cars great no missing .

I' m guessing the debrie was blocking the air flow ?

cheers Steve
