View Full Version : R Series EFi?

I was thinking about the twin weber setup on my MG1600, and where on earth I am going to get another set from, and a thought suddenly popped into my head: would it be possible to plumb in an S series EFi manifold and associated gubbins into an R series? I know it has been discussed before for the S series, but is the S series engine bay too short to get one in? I know the manifold porting on the R is the same as the S, but i'm not sure if the manifold would fit in, but there is a fair bit of space on the manifold side of the R, it looks to be more than on the S anyway.....
Please someone put me out of my misery on this one, before I start thniking that it might possibly be a good idea.....! There must be some sensors on the R which the S just does not have which are essential to the workings of the EFi? Surely??
And if it is possible, please don't let the modern day Frank Spencer here be the one to undertake it!!

Ricky.

Well, if it would go on you would have trouble getting the manifold to fit in the engine bay cause its hoooge! You would even have trouble fitting it on an S series engine in a Maestro as well. The thing is on the Rover 216 Efi, the engine block is set more at an angle than in the Maestro, which will enable the manifold to fit.

Hmm, don't know for sure Ricky but I think that even if you can fit the EFi manifold your problem is the electrics. The S-Series has the electronic ignition control which the R does not and therefore there are no sensors in the R's block.

If you *can* do it then you'll have to show me how because it would be one hell of a mod for my R-Series car.

TBH it's sounding like you'll have to put the SU carb on it for now. I have a spare SU/R-series inlet manifold if you need one!

There's more power potential with twin Weber's but obviously not as smooth or as econmical as Efi.
