Changed the oil today and found the thread on the sump all but stripped. PTFE tape is all that is between me, a very oily drive and a dry sump. Can sumps be "converted" by rethreading and use of an oversize sump plug? Any ideas what plug might be suitable? Are replacement sumps easily obtainable?

Hmm. Diesel sumps aren't very common as they often get damaged as they are fairly low.
The easiest option would be a helicoil insert if it is the thread in the sump that is stripped rather than the sump plug. Any good garage/machine shop should be able to do this for you or if you buy a kit you can do them yourself.

Had the sump on my bike helicoiled, does the job ok but you need to keep an eye on it when changing the oil - the original helicoil came out on mine and had to be redone. Probably because it gets undone and done up more often than other bolts.
Also probably because the previous owners idea was that bolts are safer if you do them all up as hard as you possibly can!

Araldite it in! or use some silicone sealant or RTV compound, that should do the job, if not get a slightly bigger tap and retap the hole and use a bolt the size of the tap. Good Luck
