HI, I have an Lreg 2ltr td maestro, somewhat battered bought about three years ago for £175, as a second car, 99000 miles on the clock goes like stink. No reading on temp guage, have tried shorting out sensor on rear of thermostat block, but still no reading from guage, cannot make any sense out of the haynes manuals, wiring diagrames do not seem to show the connections to the guage, any ideas please.

There are 3 temperature measuring devices in the engine. One in the front of the block, and two in the thermostat housing.
I think the gauge sender is the one with a single pin connector in the thermostat housing.

Any good motorfactor should be able to get you one without a problem.
