diesel filter

can any one tell me if my maestro van as a diesel filter and if so do i need to change it or clean it, if so how do i do it and how do i know when it needs doing.

there is a canister filter like the engine oil filter to the right/rear of the engine; off the top of my head they should be changed every 60k, though I changed every other year. It has a drain screw at the bottom to remove water etc. The fuel lift pump (rear/left) has a filter that should be cleaned, and any muck below this filter should be cleaned out.
