The oil pressure warning light suddenly appeared today. I checked -oil on dipstick. Cautiously forward watching temperature gauge - no response, so I drove on. No temperature rise and still plenty of oil on dipstick. 20 miles home and all appeared normal. No excessive heat under bonnet. Any suggestions? My guess is sender fault - how do I check this hunch?
The lead to the sender appears to be intact. All other electrical circuits intact so not, I think, a fuse. Joe is S series 1.6 VP

Could be a faulty sender, (substitute one to test). Also check wiring to see if it is behaving as expected. (short it to earth then examine light), Unplug it and examine light - it should have changed state - can't remember which way round it is but if the light goes off or comes on then that proves the wiring is ok.

The wire on the sender needs to be earthed to make the light come on.

Yes that makes sense as the turbo ones work the other way around to normal ones (you have to earth them to make the light go off!).

Thanks guys. The light was off this morning on start up so maybe it just objected to the long Devon hill I toiled up in third!
I'll run the tests though. Thanks again.
