View Full Version : Tammy takes one up the rear!

Yeah, ok, so tammy is my Tandy Camper (Lisa's idea, not mine).

A chap in a BMW ran into the back at the round-a-bout. "I thought you'd gone". Yep, we've all heard that before. Damage is minimal (luckily) though is 'uneconomical to repair', and the insurance company have paid out a reasonable sum.

The towbar and step without doubt prevented more serious damage; the back doors are not damaged, though they had the two square BMW grill imprinted on them, which have polished off.

The lip below forming the door lower aperture is pushed in. I think this will pull out, perhaps by drilling holes into it, putting a chain through and fixing it to a lampost, then pull forward....

Has anyone got a pair of rear bumpers with mounting brackets and lights, or know of a van being broken?

Oh joy!

Well firstly congratulations on keeping the van on the road rather than just scrapping it :D

If the rear panel is pushed in you can sometimes remove the rear door lock plate in the floor to get better access to the rear of it and then pry out the bits you can or as you say attach a hook/chain to it and do some pulling.
I fabricated a new back panel for mine (with the help of tony) as mine was rotten so if all else fails simply dut it off and make a new one up for it. I'll try and dig out some pitcures of it but it is almost presentable, especially seeing as it was lashed up quickly for an MOT several years ago.

Or as another thought, if you want to get creative you could try fitting a landrover discovery rear bumper or even a montego saloon rear bumper to it to hide the dents and relocate the number plate and numberplate lamps higher up (as I have done on mine).
Worth a thought anyway

That is the rear panel we made from scratch to replace a corroded one.
Note the steps, the huge reversing lamps and the cycle rack carrier plate.

That shows the numberplate and lamps high up. Handy as I don't need to put a numberplate on small trailers or when carrying cycles on a rack either.

Sorry to hear that.

The rear light clusters are found on LR Discoveries.
