For one thing there is probably a large ammount of carbon build up in the exhaust system.
I would treat the car to a full bottle of injector cleaner and some new fuel, then on a quiet road carry out what E_T_V calls "an italian tune up".
Once on a quiet fairly straight road, accelerate to the limit of each of the lower gears and watch the crap blow out of your zorst! (taking each gear till the rev limiter kicks in)
After that, a good service and oil treatment, + regular oil changes/injector cleaner, will keep the smoke at bay.
I do this after every service and half way between, but then all deisels smoke a little on start up.(but not big black clouds of it LOL)

Give it an italian tune up, a ruddy good thrash for at least 30 minutes once you have it up to normal tempreture.

Every Perkins i have seen has blue smoke from cold to some degree.

Mine blows out black ! smoke on start up from cold. Heavy acceleration also creates black smoke and it does on every Meastro/Montego diesel I have seen.

My old NASP van engine used to give blue smoke on startup but that was totally knackered. My newerTD engine in my van only ever gives black smoke :D But some smoke on startup is pretty normal.
Check that the PCV valve is working properly (its a one way valve mounted just below the oil filler, it vents excess crank case fumes into the air intake).
This can give all sorts of interesting oil consumption problems.
Also check the fuel pump timing is correct as if it isn't you get smoke.
To do a bit of an italian tune up. Make sure the cambelt is in good condition.
Run the car until it is good and warm.
Remove the fuel filter (renew it if its old), Half fill the fuel filter with cheapo diesel injector treatement, refit the filter and bleed it as necessary then take it for a dam good thrash. Use full throttle at full revs (you'll feel the governer kick in don't worry!), and drive it hard for a good 5 minutes. The amount of smoke will be scary but don't worry, its normal.
Then see if that improves things.

i has ticking over today for a 30 mins, then i stop it and started it up(puff of black smoke, cool)then after a 1 min it started to go to the light blue so put the accelerater to high revs and it kicked out light blue.every time i accelerated light blue flows out and then it clears and on tick over for few secs and i accelerated it to high revs again, light blue again????
i will change fuel filter and engine oil and put some treatment in this week and let u know how i get on....

Blue smoke; engine oil, ie worn engine bores, valve stem oil seals, PCV,
Black smoke; burnt diesel particularly under acceleration,
White smoke; unburnt diesel, ie pump timing,
Steam; cold engine is ok, too much and there's a problem (head gasket)!

But not the tax for using it on the road as fuel. If caught they'll impound your car and give you a huge fine.

Dan is right, you have to pay again to use it as fuel. The VAT you paid initially is not the same as Fuel Duty.

vat man gets lot of money for fuel,my ** been running it for a long time but he has all receipts from tesco's of wot he used and never ran it on red diesel(ever)as some users do.

A wad of Tesco receipts won't help you if you get caught. Not unless you can bribe the taxman with Clubcard vouchers...

How can you put up with the smell? It's like having your own kebab van without the kebabs, which makes you both hungry and leaves you feeling ill, it's not nice.....!
