Okay, odd question, this: Is the Metro VP's steering wheel the same size as a Maestro VP steering wheel?
There's one on eBay at the moment and I'll prolly get it if it's the same size.
Thanks!

Hmmm, my mate used to have a metro and I'm sure the steering wheel was smaller than the maestro. The maestro does have quite a large wheel. Maybe someone else can say for sure.

Yep - its smaller on the metro - 13" instead of 14" seems to ring a bell.

Yup, smaller. Can verify that - saw one in the scrappo the other day...

Thanks folks - that's a real shame but in a way you've talked me out of spending £80 so I suppose it's okay really. I may get my current one retrimmed instead I think.

It will still fit... is 1" really that noticable?

Hehe.
Yeah I think it would be. Would look out of place in a Maestro. I think.

I wouldn't fancy a smaller steering wheel, especially without power steering!

We've fitted an MG Metro wheel to my father's MG Maestro EFi because the original wheel was very bad. The smaller size is not too bad. You cannot see the tip of the stalks anymore. But even without power steering I don't find our MG too heavy on the steering. It is hardly to see when just looking at the car, so nearly nobody would notice it's not original.
Get yourself a wheel from a scrap Metro if you fancy a smaller wheel and give it a try. I personally am a fan of _large_ steering wheels - and the one in the (original) Maestro could be a 'bit larger indeed :-)
Cheers!

If only they did! My car is quite heavy on the steering! I tis lighter now - had my wheel alignment done on Sat (along with some smart new tyres) so they are now pointing in the same direction (it was miles out) which makes cornering a tad easier!
