Does anyone know what the timing should be adjusted to on a 1.3l a series if I am to run it on unleaded petrol

I'd say just run it as it is and see if it runs ok. I've owned 4 A+ series and they've all been fine on 95.
Make sure you use an additive such as castrol valvemaster if its pre 89 Model year (F reg and before, pretty much, although there are some F plates that are unleaded. look for a sticker if unsure. engine codes 12HE and 12HF are an indication of hardened valve seats.). a few people, alexander for one, run without additive and seem to be running ok as long as you keep an eye on the valve clearances.

Exactly... Mine ran fine on 95octane fuel without mods. And it's still doing well - though I need to check the valves again. Last check is now nearly 10k miles ago. But I guess when running on petrol instead of LPG checking valves every 15-20k would be fine.
To put it that way: There WILL be a day when I need the valve seats renewed. But during the last 45k miles of unleaded motoring it has not yet come...
