We have had them for nearly a year now on the Stocksbridge bypass.

I would rate them as being good. As the accident rate on the bypass has been considerably lower.

The good thing about SPEC's are that you don't get idiots braking at last minute for cameras, then speeding up again.

Good, I hate speeding people on Mways at 90-100+mph.

Lock them up.

Do you not find it more frightening when people drive on the mway at 40-50mph? What about tailgating? Both of these are much worse than speeding! There is no system to prevent either of these happening!

Surely it wouldnt be complicated to use similar technology to detect both of these!

Dave.

40-50mph is dangerous, but only because of idiots sitting in the middle lane and those doing three figures meaning that it is difficult to overtake the slow moving people.

Tailgating should have a much higher priority with the police, why with their video cameras are they overly obsessed by speed and so leave tailgaters alone? :banghead: When the police tailgate as much as anyone else, I doubt there's much hope. I would give a 2 week ban to those who tailgate.

SPECS cameras have been installed next to where I live for almost a year now and they do work (unless you are on a motorbike :D:D)

They are good because they monitor average speed over a distance e.g., 1 mile, rather than a gasto which measures it over 20 feet or so. So you don't get the wave of brakelights around the camera site.

They were put on the "Road of death" which claimed 16 lives last year. This year I've heard of (well saw) only one fatality. So they do work. I drive through them every day on the way to work and back (12 cameras in all) and because I'm sensible I've not got a ticket yet. Unfortunatly they don't differentiate between different classes of vehicle and so have a blanket limit of 60mph but no system is perfect

Damn speed cameras, I've said it before and I'll say it again: Spend the money on cutting the real crime out there in the community instead of praying on the poor old motorist all the time.
